We are seeking a skilled and collaborative Reading Specialist who is passionate about supporting students with learning differences through structured, research-based literacy instruction. The ideal candidate is committed to helping students build the skills, confidence, and independence needed for academic success in a supportive independent school environment.
Position SummaryThe Reading Specialist provides individualized and small-group reading instruction, conducts assessments, and partners with faculty and families to implement effective, data-driven interventions. This role emphasizes structured literacy approaches and close collaboration to support each student’s growth.
Responsibilities- Provide direct, structured literacy instruction in phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension
- Design and implement targeted reading interventions based on assessment data
- Monitor progress and communicate regularly with teachers, families, and administrators
- Collaborate with faculty and specialists to support student learning across the curriculum
- Contribute to school wide literacy initiatives and best practices
- Maintain current knowledge of research-based reading instruction and intervention
- Master’s degree in Reading, Literacy, Special Education, or related field required
- Experience working with students with learning disabilities strongly preferred
- Training in Orton-Gillingham or related structured literacy programs (Wilson, Barton, Speech-to-Print, Lindamood‑Bell, etc.) preferred
- Familiarity with IEPs, 504 Plans, and assistive technology
- Strong collaboration, communication, and organizational skills
- Commitment to a student-centered, team-oriented independent school culture
