Overview
Staff Accountant with a real estate company. The Staff Accountant will be responsible for performing a variety of accounting duties, including preparing and reconciling month-end reports (Accounts Payables and Work-in-Process), posting journal entries, and month end closing activities.
Responsibilities- Apply and strengthen knowledge of GAAP and cost accounting while safeguarding company assets in accordance with corporate and divisional policies.
- Prepare and post a variety of journal entries, including WIP accruals, intercompany transactions, administrative fees, and other month-end activities.
- Record revenue, cost of sales, and close dates for homes across multiple divisions, gaining hands-on experience in operational accounting.
- Post cash receipts including closing funds, earnest money deposits, ACH transactions, and incoming wire transfers.
- Assist with bank account activity, including controlled disbursement reconciliations for several divisions.
- Prepare and reconcile month-end reports such as Aged Accounts Payable, and Work-in-Process (WIP) reports including commentary and footnotes.
- Identify opportunities to improve processes, accuracy, and efficiency within accounting operations.
- Process customer refund checks, void checks, and record forfeiture income as needed.
- Consolidate and submit monthly land bank billings and confirm funding receipts.
- Post and reconcile commission payments twice monthly.
- Bachelors’ degree in Accounting or Finance.
- 2+ years of professional accounting experience.
- Experience with GAAP and cost accounting, with a desire to deepen technical expertise.
- Prior homebuilding, real estate, or construction accounting experience preferred.
- Experience with Microsoft Office (e.g., Excel, Word, Outlook).
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced, evolving environment.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with a collaborative, professional approach.
- Curiosity, attention to detail, and a proactive mindset toward learning and growth.
