Summary:
Units:
Medical Surgical/variable. The purpose of this position is to augment both technical and nursing staff in and around imaging procedures. Duties are under direct oversight by technical and nursing personnel. The role assists with patient care as it relates to imaging exam turnaround time, patient safety, patient experience and department workflow. Responsibilities include transporting inpatients and ER patients to and from the department, helping patients onto and off imaging equipment, and supporting outpatient exam workflow (assisting patients to and from the OP waiting room, directing patients to changing rooms for exams, assisting with portable imaging studies, and dispensing oral contrast) and other support duties as needed.
- (50%) Transport patients to imaging from the ER and all inpatient units; assist in safely transferring patients on and off imaging tables; assist Imaging staff with portable imaging studies.
- (25%) Stage patients for imaging procedures: greet patients; if necessary, have patients change into a hospital gown; assist patients to and from imaging rooms; dispense oral contrast if needed; set up rooms for procedures; provide patient care duties within the scope of practice designated to a Care Assistant.
- (25%) Work as dispatcher and prioritize runs based on patient needs. Use good communication skills. Utilize all relevant Epic applications.
- These job responsibilities may be directed by the Rad Tech or Imaging Nursing.
- Operates equipment as outlined on orientation checklists, policy and procedures. Participates in equipment in-services and competencies as they relate to role expectations.

Experience, Training and SkillsOne year of experience in a clinical setting preferred.
Excellent communication skills, ability to work under pressure and time management skills required.
Previous patient care experience preferred.
Physical/Mental Requirements and Working ConditionsExposure to stressful situations, including those involving public contact, as well as trauma, grief and death.
Able to wear personal protective equipment that includes latex materials or appropriate substitutes if required for your position.
Must be able to move about the facility with or without an assisted device and perform the functions of the job as outlined in the job description. Overall vision and hearing are necessary with or without assistive devices.
Frequently required to sit/stand/walk for long periods; may require frequent postural changes such as stooping, kneeling or crouching.
Some exposure to blood borne pathogens and other potentially infectious material. Must follow My Michigan Health blood borne pathogen and TB testing as required.
Ability to handle multiple tasks, get along with others, work independently, maintain regular and predictable attendance, and stay awake.
Overall dexterity is required including handling, reaching, grasping, fingering and feeling; may require repetition of these movements on a regular to frequent basis.
