Under direct supervision of the provider, the candidate will be responsible for patient assessment and care, and maintaining appropriate documentation. The position requires basic knowledge of specialty and/or primary care, and the ability to assess, plan, implement and evaluate care for patients. The role coordinates care to assure high quality, compassionate patient care, maintains patient records, orders supplies, ensures compliance with policies and regulations, and trains staff as required.
Additional duties may include general office functions such as typing, filing, and telephone handling.
- Triages all calls, schedules urgent/emergent add-ons, receives and relays test results; supports patient referrals and insurance pre-certification.
- Greets patients, performs routine pre-examination procedures, records vital signs and patient data, maintains accurate patient records and reconciles medication orders.
- Assists provider with examinations and procedures.
- Prepares and cleans patient area, sets up equipment, disposes of contaminated supplies, and sterilizes instruments.
- Provides patient assessment within scope, performs injections, dressing changes, and obtains blood specimens.
- May assist with procedures such as EKG, PFT, ABI, NST, etc.
- Maintains a clean, safe environment, performs clerical duties, orders supplies, documents and codes accurately.
- Participates in annual quality reviews and adheres to HIPAA.
- Travel to satellite clinics as required.
BLS – Basic Life Support (required within 3 months of hire)
Medical Assistant certification (MA CERT)
As required by Medicare/Medicaid, Medical Assistants must possess one of the following active certifications or equivalencies:
Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) through AMT;
Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) through AAMA; or an equivalent credential such as Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA). Preference for completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program.
High School Diploma or GED.
Experience, Training and Skills- Excellent interpersonal skills for communicating with individuals at all levels.
- OSHA training completed annually.
- 3–5 years of medical office experience preferred.
- Previous physician clinic experience preferred.
- Proficiency with computer systems (MAPS, MCIR Practice Management, EMR, LIS, Emageon, dictation systems).
- Microsoft Windows competency.
- Exposure to stressful situations and public contact.
- Ability to wear personal protective equipment.
- Ability to move freely, sit, stand, walk for long periods.
- Ability to lift up to 20 lbs. as required.
- Requires light physical demand level.
Equivalent experience and other comments may be considered.
