Position Summary

The Board of Trustees shall provide for the administration of day-to-day management of the hospital through an experienced and qualified Chief Executive Officer. The CEO shall have the necessary authority to oversee and be responsible for all hospital activities and departments pursuant to such policies and orders as the Board of Trustees may from time to time adopt. The CEO shall act as the duly authorized representative of the Board in all matters in which the Board has not formally designated some other person.

Job Functions
  • Ensure that the organization’s mission and vision are directly reflected in a strategic plan that contains measurable goals and objectives.
  • Continue the organization as a regional leader in health care service delivery and innovation.
  • Work with the Board of Trustees to provide an effective strategic planning process, including planning for physical plant, equipment and acquisition of new technology and long-range plans that support the organization’s philosophy and objectives.
  • Identify and meet the healthcare needs of the communities Box Butte General Hospital serves.
  • Cultivate and retain relationships throughout the communities served by Box Butte General
  • Hospital to meet the healthcare needs of the people in those communities.
  • Ensure long-term financial viability and operational stability for Box Butte General Hospital by developing and achieving financial and operational goals consistent with the organization’s mission, vision, and values.
  • Ensure the Board of Trustees receives timely and appropriate information, including audits and financial reports.
  • Sustain an environment in which high quality patient care and service excellence are paramount.
  • Develop strong communication and mutually respectful relationships with the medical staff.
  • Identify innovative ways in which to collaborate with the medical staff for clinical, financial, operational and patient satisfaction excellence, and ensure that the medical staff leaders support and are involved in transforming the healthcare delivery model.
  • Encourage the management team’s direct access to physician input where patient care is involved; encourage decision making authority to the point of service, when applicable.
  • Create an environment of quality improvement by identifying concrete performance measures across the organization.
  • Promote a culture within Box Butte General Hospital that is characterized by open, honest and direct communication, as well as a commitment to performance excellence.
  • Establish and maintain a wide variety of significant relationships, including those with the Board of Trustees, the County Commissioners, the hospital leadership team, medical staff, employees, and community leaders.
  • The CEO will align diverse stakeholders to achieve the mission, vision and objectives of Box Butte General Hospital.
  • The CEO is involved with local, state and national forums representing the hospital and healthcare needs of the community.
  • Support the Board of Trustees and its role in governance – to achieve goals and objectives that fulfill the mission and vision of the organization.
  • The CEO supports efforts for governance effectiveness by working with the Board of Trustees in the following areas:
    • Development of Box Butte General Hospital’s strategic plan;
    • Presenting a finalized annual budget for the Board’s approval;
    • Engaging the Board in the oversight of the hospital’s quality and patient safety;
    • Facilitating the orientation of new Board members;
    • Facilitating continuing education for the Board;
    • Ensure the strength of the hospital leadership team by developing future leaders and emphasizing teamwork, collaboration, and open, honest, and direct communication;
