THE POSITION
As a Corrections Counselor 1 at the State Correctional Institution (SCI) in Camp Hill, you will engage directly with inmates, offering essential counseling services that facilitate their rehabilitation and smooth transition back into society. This position allows you to make a meaningful difference and provides continuous training and resources to enhance your counseling skills.
DESCRIPTION OF WORKThe role involves delivering professional counseling services and managing casework for inmates. You will conduct individual counseling sessions, assist inmates in accessing employment opportunities and community resources, maintain comprehensive records and reports, contribute to parole planning, and provide recommendations for re‑entry services.
WORK SCHEDULE AND ADDITIONAL INFORMATION- Full‑time employment
- Hours:
8:00 AM–4:30 PM, Monday–Friday, with a 30‑minute lunch - Telework option:
None - Starting annual salary: $55,436 (for new PA employees)
- Three years and six months as a corrections officer combined with 18 college credits in sociology, counseling, psychology, social work, corrections, criminal justice, or related field; or
- A bachelor’s degree in those fields; or
- A combination of experience and training that includes 18 college credits in the above areas.
- Applicants within 3 months of graduating with a qualifying degree will be considered.
- Obtain Commonwealth Law Enforcement Assistance Network (CLEAN) and Pennsylvania Justice Network (JNET) certification within two months of employment and maintain them for the duration of employment.
- Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA.
- Meet Pennsylvania residency requirement.
- Ability to perform essential job functions.
- Pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.
