Domain Process Consultant – Energy & Utilities & Finance (Meter to Cash)

Role Overview

The Domain Process Consultant will serve as a strategic partner supporting Meter to Cash (M2C) transformation initiatives across the Energy & Utilities sector. The role combines deep process expertise, financial acumen, and automation/transformation experience to drive rapid feasibility assessments, prioritize exception use cases, and define acceleration pathways for complex M2C modernization programs.

The consultant will engage with business leaders, technology teams, and transformation stakeholders to shape scalable solutions, optimize processes, and support the creation of SOW ready, outcome oriented narratives.

Key Responsibilities

1. Exception Use Case Prioritization & Backlog Grooming

  • Conduct rapid current state diagnostics of exception types across the M2C cycle (meter data, billing, credit/collections, invoicing, payments, adjustments).
  • Develop a prioritized backlog distinguishing:
    • High confidence, near term executable exceptions
    • Complex cases requiring deeper process/tech re engineering
  • Evaluate feasibility, cycle-time impact, and time-to-value using precedents from similar E&U engagements
    .
  • Lead workshops with business SMEs to validate root causes, exception patterns, and remediation pathways.
  • Define effort, dependencies, and potential automation pathways (RPA, rules engines, orchestration, advanced analytics).
  • Provide a fact-based view on value realization, risk, business criticality, and implementation readiness.

2. M2C Acceleration Strategy & Delivery Enablement

  • Identify and apply acceleration levers including reusable assets, configuration templates, automation patterns, reference architectures, and industry-standard workflows.
  • Define scalable delivery frameworks that ensure predictable timelines, quality, and compliance with E&U regulatory environments.
  • Partner with technology and platform teams to leverage:
    • Meter data management capabilities
    • Billing modernization accelerators
    • Credit & collections workflow automation
    • Smart meter/AMI integration patterns
  • Drive a de risked delivery model through structured governance, stage gates, and proactive risk management.
  • Ensure the solution roadmap aligns with financial governance
    , revenue assurance, and regulatory requirements.
  • Translate complex transformation elements into a crisp, SOW ready narrative with clear deliverables, scope buckets, and commercial constructs.

3. Cross Functional Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Partner with business owners, finance teams, IT architects, and operations leaders to build shared understanding and alignment.
  • Facilitate structured working sessions to gather requirements, review exception data, rationalize processes, and validate solution assumptions.
  • Act as a bridge between business and technical teams, ensuring requirements, risks, and interdependencies are clearly articulated.
  • Present findings and recommendations to leadership in clear, actionable formats.

4. Process & Domain Expertise (Energy & Utilities + Finance)

  • Demonstrate deep subject matter expertise in:
    • Metering & usage data
    • Billing & invoicing
    • Tariff structures and rate models
    • Revenue assurance / compliance
    • Credit, collections & payment processing
    • Dispute & exception management
  • Provide domain driven insights to help shape platform features, automation priorities, and transformation strategy.
  • Benchmark client processes against industry best practices and regulatory expectations.

5. Data Driven Assessment & Continuous Improvement

  • Analyze exception data, process bottlenecks, error codes, and repeat exception patterns.
  • Recommend process enhancements, automation triggers, and root cause elimination measures.
  • Establish KPIs, baselines, and monitoring frameworks to measure uplift in:
    • Automation take rates
    • Exception resolution time
    • Billing accuracy
    • Cash flow enhancement
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives across the M2C value chain.

Qualifications & Experience

  • 8–15+ years' experience in Energy & Utilities with strong grounding in Finance and Meter to Cash
    .
  • Proven track record in transformation programs involving exception management, billing modernization, or MDM/AMI integration.
  • Strong understanding of regulatory frameworks, rate structures, and utility operations.
  • Experience with automation tools (RPA, workflow orchestration), data platforms, and digital accelerators.

Excellent stakeholder communication, structured problem-solving, analytical thinking, and client-facing presentation capabilities.
