Position: Principal CNC / CAM Engineer - Autonomous Machining Systems

Bridge Digital Intelligence with Real-World Machining

Hybrid/On-site
· HQ Allentown, PA
· Seed Stage

At 4MP, we are building a new foundation for modern manufacturing.

We are creating systems that enable CNC machines to self-diagnose, self-correct, and continuously improve their geometric and process accuracy — making First Part Right manufacturing a reality at scale.

This is not academic research. This is not theoretical modeling.

This is the execution of autonomous machining systems in real production environments, working with real parts, real tools, and real constraints.

Now, we are expanding our core technical team with a principal-level CNC and CAM expert who deeply understands how CAM software thinks and how machines behave on the shop floor.

We are not looking for followers. We are looking for builders who thrive on frontier problems and take ownership of complex manufacturing systems.

The Mission

Design, validate, and integrate CNC programming and CAM strategies into 4MP’s autonomous correction platform, ensuring that software intelligence translates into practical, reliable machining outcomes.

What You Will Build

· CAM-to-CNC correction and optimization workflows

· Post-processor-aware correction strategies

· Adaptive toolpath modification systems

· Closed-loop feedback integration with CAM environments

· Best-practice machining strategies for autonomous correction

· Toolpath validation and verification pipelines

· Process-aware Digital Twin representations

· Standardized programming frameworks across machines

Role Nature:
Principal-Level Manufacturing Leadership

This is a principal-level role combining deep CNC programming expertise with systems thinking. You will serve as the primary authority on machining processes, CAM logic, and practical manufacturability within the 4MP platform.

Who You Are

· Recognized expert in CNC programming and CAM workflows

· Deep understanding of how CAM systems generate and optimize toolpaths

· Hands-on experience running and troubleshooting CNC machines

· Comfortable validating software outputs on the shop floor

· Thrives in ambiguous, frontier technical environments

· Motivated by improving manufacturing at scale

Technical Requirements (Must-Have)

· 10+ years of hands-on CNC programming and CAM engineering experience

· Expert-level knowledge of G-code

· Deep experience with major CAM platforms (Mastercam, NX, Power Mill, Fusion 360, etc.)

· Strong understanding of post-processors and machine kinematics

· Proven ability to debug machining errors and quality issues

· Experience optimizing toolpaths for accuracy, stability, and repeatability

· Ability to collaborate with software and mathematics teams

· Comfort working with metrology and inspection systems

Experience & Education

Required:

· 10+ years of professional experience in CNC programming, CAM engineering, or manufacturing engineering

· Demonstrated experience delivering production machining programs

· Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience)

Preferred:

· Master’s degree in Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering

· Experience in aerospace, medical, automotive, or precision manufacturing

· Background in automation or digital manufacturing systems

· Experience working in multidisciplinary engineering teams

Strong Plus

· Experience with multi-axis (5-axis+) machining

· Knowledge of probing, in-process inspection, and adaptive machining

· Experience with simulation and verification tools

· Familiarity with MTConnect or OPC-UA

· Experience with lights-out or high-mix production

Why This Role Matters

· Ensures software corrections translate into real machining improvements

· Bridges CAM theory with shop-floor reality

· Enables practical autonomous machining

· Improves reliability and adoption of the platform

· Accelerates industrial deployment

Why Join Now

  • This is the phase where autonomous machining moves from concept to production. Your expertise will determine how effectively intelligence becomes performance. Joining now means shaping how factories operate in the next generation.
