Utilizing the nursing process of assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation, the Registered Nurse caring for patients of all ages/developmental stages who are experiencing changes in the health process participates in patient/family care and experience through critical thinking, teamwork, effective communication, and nursing knowledge and skill. The RN is responsible for completing assigned duties in accordance with policies and procedures and contributing to the successful operations of the shift in alignment with current Texas Board of Nursing standards.
The RN will strive to maintain the highest degree of quality patient care and patient satisfaction.
- Provides patient-focused nursing care of the acutely ill or injured patient, using the core nursing process and documenting accurately to reflect the course of treatment.
- Ensures holistic, compassionate patient care that meets clinical and spiritual/emotional needs.
- Triages and prioritizes patient care based on acuity and resources; implements the care plan and communicates patient condition as appropriate.
- Works collaboratively with other disciplines to provide well-coordinated care; promotes positive interdepartmental relationships; ensures delegated tasks are within scope of practice and completed accurately.
- Performs functions within scope of practice and adheres to policies and procedures, including regulatory guidelines (e.g., Texas Department of State Health Services, Board of Nurse Examiners, CLIA).
- Adheres to laboratory procedures and safety guidelines; processes specimens according to procedures and documents results.
- Provides basic respiratory services, including capnography, pulse oximetry, oxygen therapy, and nebulized treatments.
- Demonstrates critical thinking, decisive judgment, and ability to work with minimal supervision; maintains personal motivation and initiative.
- Maintains composure during stress or emergencies and adapts to workplace changes.
- Facilitates patient transfer and discharge.
- Contributes to department policy development and documentation to align with current emergency care standards and to support family-friendly, compassionate care.
- Attends unit meetings and assists in disseminating information to team members.
- Participates in staff assessments and performance evaluations; supports staff development and ongoing education.
- Performs other duties as assigned and engages in ongoing professional development.
The physical demands described here are typical for the role; reasonable accommodations may be available. Employees are regularly required to hear and speak, and frequently required to sit, stand, walk, use hands, reach, and lift/move >10 lbs. Employees are occasionally required to lift/move up to 25 lbs., climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Vision requirements include close, distance, color, peripheral vision, depth perception, and focus adjustment.
QualificationsEducation Qualifications and Credentials
- Must possess and maintain a current Registered Nurse License in the State of Texas (or compact license with Texas).
- Current certification in BLS.
- Current ACLS and PALS are required (can be obtained within first 30 days).
- Excellent interpersonal skills are required.
- At least 2 years’ experience as a Registered Nurse in an Emergency Department Setting.
Knowledge of current federal and state laws and regulations that apply to Freestanding Emergency Centers in addition to the practice of nursing. Possess strong organizational and time management skills and the ability to prioritize responsibilities.
