Description
POSITION SUMMARY
The Weigh Technician is responsible for accurately weighing, labeling, and dispensing raw materials for use in production batches in accordance with master manufacturing records (MMRs), SOPs, and FDA cGMP requirements. This role plays a critical part in ensuring product quality, accuracy, and traceability by maintaining precise documentation and following proper material handling procedures. The Weigh Technician supports production readiness through careful measurement, organization, and preparation of materials in a clean and compliant environment.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS & DUTIES
INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:
• Accurately weigh and dispense raw materials according to MMRs and production schedules.
• Verify material identity, lot numbers, and quantities before dispensing.
• Label all pre-weighed materials clearly and ensure traceability throughout the production process.
• Operate and maintain scales, balances, and other weighing equipment in accordance with calibration requirements.
• Record all weighing activities accurately and legibly in batch records and logbooks.
• Follow cGMP and safety guidelines to prevent cross-contamination and ensure product integrity.
• Maintain cleanliness and organization of the weighing area and material storage locations.
• Ensure raw materials are properly handled, stored, and secured according to SOPs.
• Report discrepancies, damaged materials, or weighing deviations to the Lead or Supervisor immediately.
• Support verification of scale calibrations and participate in weighing process audits when required.
• Assist in inventory control, material reconciliation, and support of production staging activities.
• Follow all PPE, hygiene, and safety protocols at all times.
• Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance weighing accuracy and efficiency.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS, EDUCATION, AND EXPERIENCE
• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• 1-3 years of experience in weighing, dispensing, or material handling within dietary supplement, nutraceutical, food, or pharmaceutical manufacturing.
• Familiarity with FDA 21 CFR Part 111 and cGMP manufacturing practices.
• Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and documentation skills.
• Ability to interpret and follow MMRs, batch records, and SOPs precisely.
• Basic math and computer skills for data entry and material tracking.
• Good communication and teamwork abilities.
• Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced, regulated production environment.
EMPLOYEE AND MANAGER cGMP RESPONSIBILITIES
Employee Responsibilities
• Adhere to cGMPs and SOPs.
• Report any situations that might harm food safety or quality immediately to the supervisor or QA Department.
• Ensure food safety and quality are maintained according to company standards.
• Comply with policies and procedures to prepare and pack products under sanitary conditions that do not expose it to the risk of contamination.
• Operate and maintain a clean and hygienic standard of operation. Always Follow Company CGMPS (Current Good Manufacturing Practices and Food Safety Policies).
Supervisor Responsibilities
• Maintain a Food Safety Culture by regularly assessing the team's performance and understanding of food safety practices.
• Initiate decisions on corrective action that support resolution and improved policies and procedures.
• Communicate to employees any opportunity to improve team performance to achieve greater levels of product safety and quality.
• Comply with policies and procedures to prepare and pack the product under sanitary conditions that do not expose it to the risk of contamination.
• Encourage and maintain a strong food safety culture by ensuring employees are knowledgeable of food safety policies and procedures, as well as empowered to report events that could impact the food safety of the product
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
• Frequent standing, walking, and handling of materials throughout the shift.
• Regular lifting of up to 50 pounds; occasional lifting up to 75 pounds.
• Repetitive bending, reaching, and manual handling of containers and scoops.
• Manual dexterity to operate scales, labeling tools, and weighing instruments.
