FULL SALARY RANGE: $3,691.40 - $4,346.16 BIWEEKLY

The Position

The purpose of this position is to protect and serve the property and citizens of the City. This is accomplished by patrolling the City, recognizing and citing offenses and making arrests where necessary. Other duties may include promoting a secure environment, enforcing traffic laws, reporting motor vehicle accidents, investigating crimes, maintaining positive community relations and interfacing with other City employees and citizens.

This position does not provide direction to other employees.

Out of State Lateral Program

To be eligible for the lateral process, you must meet all the requirements. Check the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) site to ensure eligibility. Do not start the process with TCOLE or apply with us until you are ready to move to Texas. You will need to complete the hiring process, move, and complete all the required courses once employed within 6 months.

The following duties are NOT intended to serve as a comprehensive list of all duties performed by all employees in this classification, only a representative summary of the primary duties and responsibilities. Incumbent(s) may not be required to perform all duties listed and may be required to perform additional, position-specific duties.

  • Promotes a secure environment by patrolling the City and assigned districts, deterring crime by presence, assisting in high risk situations, conducting surveillance, taking reports, operating police equipment, enforcing laws and ordinances, subduing combative individuals, making lawful arrests and maintaining the peace on civil scenes.
  • Enforces traffic laws by patrolling roadways, responding to calls, observing violations, issuing citations or warnings, and filing reports.
  • Reports on motor vehicle accidents by responding to incidents, clearing roadways, interviewing involved parties, recording evidence, and filing reports.
  • Investigates crimes by interviewing witnesses, victims and suspects, gathering evidence, submitting reports, and filing charges.
  • Maintains positive community relations by answering questions and providing civic services, surveying the public to evaluate needs, and gathering opinions on Police matters.
Education and Experience
  • Completed at least 30 college credits with a GPA of 2.0 or higher plus two (2) years of continuous service as a full-time law enforcement officer answering calls for service and possessing arrest powers, with patrol duties and successful field training; OR
  • High School diploma or equivalent plus three (3) years of continuous service as a full-time law enforcement officer with arrest powers, patrol duties and successful field training program (FTO).


* Credits that have been officially recognized and approved by the Department of Education or the Council for Higher Education will be accepted.
