Whether you are optimizing current gasoline engine solutions or pioneering systems for the next generation of hybrids, your work will have a direct, measurable impact on the air we breathe and the future of mobility.
Why this role is different:
- Built-in Mentorship:
You will work side-by-side with a Design Release Engineer partner and our Aftertreatment Technical Specialist, receiving dedicated coaching to master the complexities of the field - Ownership:
You will own the lifecycle of your components, from initial concept and "blank sheet" design to global production - Cutting-Edge Tech:
Engage with the latest in three-way catalysts, gasoline particulate filters, and emerging technologies designed to tackle future regulatory challenges
What you'll do:
- Innovate & Define:
Collaborate with technical specialists to architect "best-in-class" aftertreatment systems for gasoline and hybrid vehicle programs - Lead the Design:
Establish engineering specifications, manage FMEAs & DVP, and navigate complex system trade-offs to ensure peak performance and durability - Drive Supplier Excellence:
Lead global supplier partnerships to optimize manufacturing processes for function, cost, weight, and quality. You'll even perform on-site audits to ensure excellence at the source - Cross-Functional Influence:
Act as the product development bridge between Program Integration, Engine Calibration, Finance, and Certification teams to deliver high-stakes programs on time and on budget - Shape the Future:
Evaluate and pilot emerging technologies to stay ahead of evolving government regulations
We're looking for:
- The Foundation: A Bachelor's degree in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering
- The
Experience:
At least 2 years of experience in emissions development (we value your journey-internships, co-ops, and coursework count!) - Problem Solvers: 2+ years of experience identifying and resolving complex emissions issues related to calibration, controls, or exhaust systems
- The Engineer is expected to understand and effectively utilize product check-in/check-out processes, version control, data release, and change management within Ford's PLM ecosystem.
- Product Lifecycle Knowledge:
Experience taking a program from initial concept through to high-volume production - Systems Thinking: A proven ability to analyze and solve sophisticated problems where the engine and emissions systems intersect
- Core Engine Expertise: A fundamental understanding of internal combustion engine function and thermodynamics
- This role offers the opportunity for limited travel (primarily within the US, with occasional international opportunities) to visit manufacturing sites and partner facilities
You may not check every box, or your experience may look a little different from what we've outlined, but if you think you can bring value to Ford Motor Company, we encourage you to apply!
As an established global company, we offer the benefit of choice. You can choose what your Ford future will look like: will your story span the globe, or keep you close to home? Will your career be a deep dive into what you love, or a series of new teams and new skills? Will you be a leader, a change maker, a technical expert, a culture builder...or
all of the above? No matter what you choose, we offer a work life that works for you, including:
• Immediate medical, dental, vision and prescription drug coverage
• Flexible family care days, paid parental leave, new parent ramp-up programs, subsidized back-up child care and more
