Accessioning Technician

Neo Genomics is seeking an Accessioning Technician I to join our Aliso Viejo, CA laboratory team. This entry‑level role focuses on specimen handling, data entry, and quality assurance to support laboratory testing.

As an Accessioning Technician, you will ensure proper handling of all specimens received, match patient information, enter data, scan documents, and perform full specimen processing procedures.

• Receive specimens for testing
• Remain informed of all procedure changes related to sample processing
• Perform quality assurance checks of incoming or outgoing samples
• Return slides and blocks to clients
• Utilize chain‑of‑custody logs for slides and blocks, ensuring appropriate custody procedures are followed
• Oversee Q/C workflow and reconcile block logs
• Identify and report any quality or compliance concerns and take immediate corrective action
• Follow department procedures for specimen routing and handling, and report missing or lost items to Lead, Supervisor, or Manager
• Implement lost‑block/slide process to locate missing items as required
• Work effectively with other departments to resolve and troubleshoot problems
• Use company platforms to communicate with internal staff
• Maintain inventory of the department, common lab, general office, and kitchen supplies
• Assist management and technical staff with administrative duties as needed
• Log movement of specimens into the Block Room and transfers to other departments
• Manage Block Room queue and email incidents and other department needs
• Pull block(s)/slide(s) as needed for Global/Archive necessities

• High School Diploma or equivalent
• 1+ year(s) of experience equivalent to an Accessioning Technician preferred
• Proficiency with MS Office programs
• Ability to sit continuously during shift (excluding meal and rest periods)
• Ability to move and lift 50 pounds and maneuver packages of any weight above 50 pounds with appropriate equipment or assistance
• Ability to bend/twist at the waist and knees consistently
• Flexibility to work based on staffing requirements, including evenings, weekends, holidays, on‑call, and overtime
• Ability to work in a biohazard environment and comply with safety policies and standards outlined in the Safety Manual

Shift: Sunday to Thursday, 8:30 am – 5:00 pm
