  • Overview

    In pursuit of service excellence, this Therapeutic Recreation Leader position helps individuals with disabilities to be included in general recreational programs. Work with participants to develop skills, manage challenging behaviors, foster independent participation. Work with staff to create a positive, inclusive environment. Actively participates in all program activities, assists with the adaptation of activities and helps to facilitate social interaction. Plan, coordinate, and lead recreation activities while providing assistance to program operation.

    Provide training and direction to temporary staff, volunteers and summer youth employees. An employee in this class performs professional recreation work under general guidelines and initiates program activities with organized groups. Assist supervisor with management of facility, specialized program area including full inclusion and one‑on‑one services. General supervision is received from a Therapeutic Recreation Manager of higher grade or a Regional Program Director.

    What You Should Bring

    You will work to meet the recreation needs for our community, ensuring that all activities are fun, safe and orderly. To best serve in this position, you should have good knowledge of the social and recreational sciences, including the theory, principles, and practices of therapeutic recreation. You must also demonstrate an ability to plan and implement activities and work effectively in a group setting.

    You should be able to execute programming that meets the highest standards of excellence.
