$23–$26/hour Livewell Animal Hospital of Alexandria is seeking a skilled, compassionate full-time Veterinary Assistant to join our growing team. We are a brand-new hospital opened in 2025, featuring modern equipment, open spaces, and a strong commitment to low-stress handling for our patients and clients.

Your Role

Position:
Full-Time Veterinary Assistant

Position Requirements
  • The ideal candidate will have the following qualifications:
    • Strong understanding of anesthetic monitoring for canine and feline patients, including:
      • SpO₂, heart rate, temperature, blood pressure, anesthetic depth
      • Ability to recognize, communicate, and respond to abnormalities
    • Ability to independently troubleshoot anesthetic and monitoring equipment
    • Skilled in blood draws, injections, and vaccine administration
    • Fear Free Certified or willing to become Fear Free Certified
    • Confident in proper canine and feline restraint, with an emphasis on fear-free handling
    • Familiarity with veterinary medical terminology
    • Comfortable providing basic client education related to general practice care
    • Ability to restrain and position patients for most radiographic images
    • Clear, kind, and empathetic communication with clients
    • Strong attention to detail and ability to stay productive during downtime
    • Team-oriented mindset with a willingness to help train less experienced staff
    • Availability to work weekends (Saturday mornings)

  • Tuesday: 8:00 AM – 6:00 PM

  • Thursday: 8:00 AM – 6:00 PM
  • Friday: 8:00 AM – 6:00 PM
  • Saturday: 8:00 AM – 12:00 PM
  • Sunday:

  • Provide Essential Patient Care:
    You’ll be a key player in the health of our patients, assisting the medical team with hands-on care and ensuring every animal is treated with compassion and respect.
  • Be the Go-To Support for the Medical Team:
    You’ll be the backbone of the clinic, anticipating the needs of veterinarians and technicians to ensure a smooth, efficient, and collaborative workflow.
  • Create a Positive Client

    Experience:

    You’ll help create a seamless visit for our clients by assisting with scheduling, payments, and communications, always with a courteous and informative approach.
  • Ensure a Safe and Clean Environment:
    You’ll take pride in maintaining the hospital, performing clinic upkeep and equipment maintenance to uphold our high standards of care.
What You'll Bring To The Team
  • A High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • A calm and efficient approach, with the ability to handle a fast-paced and sometimes stressful environment with composure.
  • Confidence and skill in handling pets of all sizes and temperaments.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Proficiency in fundamental veterinary skills ranging from laboratory and pharmacy to nursing and radiology is a strong asset.
