Overview
It takes a lot to maintain all 105 Springfield-Greene County Park Board locations, ranging from neighborhood parks, multi-use recreational facilities, natural resource areas, special use facilities and aquatic facilities. Our departmental maintenance staff work daily to contribute to the care and beautification of over 3,200 acres of park property. The Park Operations division is the primary division within Parks dedicated to the maintenance and upkeep of our neighborhood and regional parks and facilities.
You will find Park Operations staff maintaining our ball fields, trails, structures, pavilions, playground equipment, trees, botanical gardens, and more.
Our Maintenance Workers work full-time, year-round schedules. Most assignments require one weekend day to be part of the set schedule.

- A minimum of one year of experience (or 6 months if candidate has direct City of Springfield experience in one of these areas) in the operation of dump trucks, flusher trucks, skid-steer loaders, front-end loaders or comparable equipment operation;
- OR
- One year of maintenance and/or construction work comparable to work completed in the Parks & Public Works Departments in such areas as street/road work, grounds work, maintaining sports fields, agriculture, and sewer or utility pipe line work.
- Must take and pass, at minimum, the written portion of the Commercial Drivers License (CDL) exam (permit) within 90 days of hire.
- A class "B" CDL, at minimum, must then be obtained within the probationary period.
- Some assignments require the driver to have the ability to operate a vehicle with airbrakes.
- Candidates must possess endorsements such as tanker and/or a class "A" license in order to qualify for some assignments.
- Candidates must obtain and maintain CPR and First Aid Certification within the probationary period.
