Position: User Experience (UX) Designer

Summary

The User Experience (UX) Designer is responsible for researching, designing, and validating intuitive and accessible digital experiences for NSF web platforms. This role ensures that websites and applications are user-centered, compliant with federal accessibility standards, and aligned with NSF’s communication goals. The UX Designer collaborates closely with designers, developers, and stakeholders to deliver effective and engaging user experiences.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct user research to understand audience needs, behaviors, and pain points across NSF web platforms.
  • Develop and document information architecture, user flows, task analyses, wireframes, and high-fidelity prototypes.
  • Plan and facilitate usability testing, including test plan development, session execution, data analysis, and reporting findings.
  • Recommend UX solutions that balance user needs, technical feasibility, accessibility requirements, and business objectives.
  • Ensure all UX designs adhere to Section 508, WCAG 2.0, and federal usability standards.
  • Support ongoing feedback and evaluation efforts, including surveys, interviews, and analytics review.
  • Collaborate with web designers and developers to ensure accurate implementation of UX recommendations.
  • Contribute UX expertise to special projects and cross‑functional initiatives as needed.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in UX design, human‑computer interaction, graphic design, or a related field.
  • Six (6) or more years of experience in user experience research and web design.
  • Demonstrated experience creating wireframes, prototypes, task flows, and information architecture documentation.
  • Hands‑on experience conducting usability testing and presenting actionable insights to stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of accessibility standards, including Section 508 and WCAG 2.0.
  • Experience supporting UX initiatives in federal agencies or similar large organizations preferred.
  • Strong analytical, communication, and collaboration skills.
