Overview
Scion Nonprofit Staffing has been engaged to conduct a search for a Controller on behalf of a respected, mission-driven nonprofit organization. This is an exceptional direct-hire opportunity to join a dynamic leadership team overseeing the financial health and operational integrity of a well-established organization.
About the Role:
The Controller will lead the organization’s day-to-day accounting and finance operations while ensuring the integrity of financial reporting, internal controls, and compliance processes. This role serves as a key financial partner to executive leadership, providing oversight of accounting operations, financial reporting, budgeting, and audit coordination while supporting strategic decision-making across the organization.
Responsibilities- Lead and manage the daily operations of the accounting and finance department, including staff oversight and development
- Oversee financial reporting, monthly close processes, and preparation of reports for leadership and board review
- Ensure accurate recording of all financial transactions through strong internal control systems and best practices
- Manage accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, inventory accounting, fixed assets, and general ledger functions
- Serve as the primary liaison with auditors, banking partners, insurance brokers, and financial service providers
- Oversee the annual audit process, financial statement preparation, and regulatory filings including IRS Form 990
- Lead the annual budgeting process and provide financial analysis, forecasting, and performance benchmarking
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field
- 10+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience
- 5+ years of supervisory or leadership experience managing accounting staff
- Strong experience with financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and internal controls
- Experience preparing for and supporting external audits and regulatory compliance
- Advanced accounting software experience (Dynamics GP, Tessitura, CounterPoint, or similar systems preferred)
- CPA or CMA designation preferred; public accounting experience a plus
- Competitive salary range of $150,000 – $190,000 annually
