Responsibilities

  • Monitor and operate workstations throughout the production processes of the facility. Perform process control setting changes/adjustments to implement necessary process improvements. Record operating data such as process conditions, test results, and instrument readings.
  • Monitor software systems for accuracy and recommend changes in data collection and display.
  • Analyze short-term and long-term process data, including data in software systems and Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA), to recommend process changes and develop/interpret graphs and tables.
  • Create or redesign existing logs and complete incident and high-flow reports as needed.
  • Provide on-the-job training to other staff in the operation of plant processes, off-site pump stations, and interceptor systems, including start-ups, transitions, safety procedures, shutdowns, and programs such as SCADA, software systems, and Facility Information Management Systems (FIMS).
  • Provide input and/or prepare standard operating procedures (SOPs) and evaluate new production processes.
  • Actively participate and support the Environmental Management System (EMS) program.
  • Monitor recording instruments, flow meters, panel lights, and other indicators, and listen for warning signals to verify process conditions.
  • Control or operate chemical processes or systems of machines using panel boards, control boards, or semi-automatic equipment.
  • Collaborate with technical and supervisory personnel to report or resolve conditions affecting safety, efficiency, and product quality.
  • Collect representative product samples and conduct quality control tests to monitor processing and ensure standards are met. Review laboratory test reports for process adjustments.
  • Regulate or shut down equipment during emergency situations.
  • Patrol work areas to ensure proper operations and maintenance of all equipment and infrastructure.
  • Maintain local supply inventory, and generate and close completed work order requests.
  • Monitor and troubleshoot processes and equipment, informing higher-level workers and specialists of problems and potential issues.
  • Oversee the off-loading of chemicals from trucks to storage tanks and the loading of sludge trucks for bio-solids disposal.
  • Identify, troubleshoot, and address abnormal operating conditions. Monitor processes and inform other staff of potential issues.
  • Promote safe behaviors and health awareness consistently during daily tasks.
  • Perform other duties as required.
Qualifications
  • Education And/or Experience
  • High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) equivalent required.
  • 1-5 years of experience in wastewater treatment plant operations; or one year as an Operator-in-Training preferred.
  • Valid Waste Water Works Operator license (Class 1, 2, 3, or
    4). Hourly pay varies based on the license.
  • Possess and maintain a valid driver s license.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and in writing to complete technical reports and provide instruction to others, including external stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of Virginia Pollution Discharge Elimination System (VPDES) permit and requirements.
  • Knowledge of stormwater permits and regulations.
  • Understanding of wastewater treatment facility equipment tolerances to recognize variations in operating conditions.
  • Familiarity with wastewater unit processes and their interrelationships.
  • Ability to troubleshoot wastewater equipment problems and implement solutions.
  • Ability to operate workstations within the plant and off-site pump stations.
  • Ability to read technical prints, drawings, and diagrams.
  • Ability and willingness to work as part of a team.
  • Proficiency in using computer software programs.
