Position OverviewThis position is accountable for the structural analysis and design of complex bridge repair and rehabilitation projects; reviewing and approving structural repair designs prepared by others; conducting structural inspections and investigations of deteriorated and damaged structures; and preparing emergency repair plans.
Responsibilities- Develop structural repairs for highly complex structures incorporating innovative repair procedures with current methods and technology.
- Prepare emergency repair plans for structures damaged by vehicles or river traffic.
- Review repair and retrofit details prepared by other engineers, district personnel, or consultants for completeness and structural adequacy.
- Provide structural expertise on defects noted during annual joint maintenance inspections of major boundary river structures.
- Conduct special investigations related to repair techniques, construction procedures, and design specifications.
- Perform field investigations of damaged or deteriorated structures and recommend corrective actions.
- Review and recommend approval or rejection of contractor proposals involving construction methods such as shoring, bracing, and jacking.
- Perform duties in compliance with departmental safety rules. Perform all duties in a manner conducive to the fair and equitable treatment of all employees.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Current registration as a Licensed Professional Engineer in the state of Illinois.
- Four years of experience in civil engineering.
- Thorough knowledge of bridge design, construction, and maintenance.
- Knowledge of inspection technology.
- Ability to coordinate multiple projects with variable emergency repair characteristics.
- Ability to develop and maintain cooperative relationships with departmental staff, consultants, and contractors.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Requires a valid driver’s license.
- Requires successful completion of a background screening.
- Requires occasional statewide travel with overnight stays.
