This position is accountable for preparing and reviewing studies related to highway drainage improvements.
Essential Functions- Prepares hydraulic reports and analyses to ensure that they are accurate, neat, complete and incompliance with the Bureau of Design and Environment’s (BDE) Manual and Drainage Manuals and Policies.
- Reviews hydraulic calculations for highway access permits.
- Handles documentation of the hydraulic procedures and key decisions made in report preparation needed to help keep bridge and related files up to date.
- Performs field inspections to ensure that the information for report and plan preparation is accurate and completed on a timely basis.
- Keeps informed of current departmental and district policies and procedures to ensure projects and reports are compliant with current policies and procedures.
- Identifies scheduling requirements to complete work in a timely fashion. Coordinates work with others, both inside and outside of Program Development, while keeping the Hydraulics Engineer aware of work issues.
- Assists with the review of work completed by other hydraulics staff members
- Performs duties in compliance with departmental safety rules. Performs all duties in a manner conducive to the fair and equitable treatment of all employees.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Completion of a bachelor’s degree in engineering from an Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) accredited college OR master’s degree in engineering, OR Engineer Intern license in the state of Illinois.
- 43 months of civil engineering experience.
- Ability to conduct engineering research and to write technical reports.
- Ability to supervise and inspect the work of contractors on major engineering projects in accordance with plans and specifications.
- Good oral and written communication skills.
- Requires a valid driver’s license.
- Requires overtime and overnight travel.
- Requires successful completion of a background screening.
- Certain provisions of the revolving door restrictions contained in 5 ILCS 430/5-45 apply to this position. As a result, the employee should be aware that if offered non-State employment during state employment or within one year immediately after ending State employment, the employee shall, prior to accepting any such non-State employment offer, notify the Office of the Executive Inspector General for the Agencies of the Illinois Governor (OEIG) or may be subject to a fine.
