Wastewater Process Lead
Join Brown and Caldwell as a Wastewater Process Lead and help drive the strategic direction and pace of the Wastewater Practice. In this role you will partner with the National Practice Leader, National Technology Innovation Leader, and the R&D Program Director to create BC’s “tip of the spear” solutions to new client challenges and support company and business‑unit strategies. You will lead business development, wastewater projects, research projects, talent development, and partnerships with R&D organizations to position Brown and Caldwell as the go‑to firm for technical innovation at the regional and national level.
ResponsibilitiesInnovation Leadership
- Partner with the wastewater practice’s NPL, NTIL, and Technical Services Leadership to set the practice’s technical innovation vision and strategy, focusing on leading edge applied R&D and identifying differentiation opportunities.
- Represent the practice by engaging with SMS and practice members to update strategy and leverage innovations developed by the Technical Innovation Leadership Team.
- Launch innovative solutions into the marketplace in partnership with NPL, NTIL, and other stakeholders, and raise awareness within Business Units.
- Coordinate with NTIL, Specialty Leaders, TILT, and others to advance solutions through the Technical Exploration and Confirmation (TEC) process, de‑risking and ensuring solution readiness for promotion in BC’s Technology Marketplace.
- Provide technical expertise for regional and national projects, engaging SMS and practice members throughout.
- Ensure appropriate SMS staff support effective project delivery of new solutions, including bench‑ and pilot‑scale treatability testing.
- For early full‑scale applications, ensure effective scaling and consistent quality delivery of new technologies.
- Analyze competition and define key applied research projects to build capability and develop winning technical strategies.
- Collaborate with the Technical Services Product Manager to communicate emerging issues, technical differentiators, and new solutions internally.
- Support deployment of new solutions for strategic markets, key pursuits, clients, and geographies through collaboration with local Client Service Managers and BU leaders.
- Serve on Client Service Teams to support the Plan‑to‑Win Process for strategic pursuits and establish key staff relationships to validate BC technical capabilities with clients.
- Guide and collaborate on rapid development of standard tools and content for efficient, high‑quality scaling of new solutions.
- Oversee the TEC process and TRRAC engagement to mitigate application risk.
- Lead technical resources engaged in applied R&D and innovation, sourcing and advancing new solutions.
- Work with the Practice Leader to identify needs and candidates, supporting recruiting and maintaining an active funnel of strategic technical recruits.
- Represent the BC innovation brand across the industry, producing thought‑leadership through publications and public visibility.
- Identify and develop partnerships with solution providers and academic institutions to leverage BC’s tech investments.
- Engage in conferences, workshops, and national visibility events in coordination with leadership teams.
- Stay current with technology and market trends, informing the annual State of the Industry Report and strategic planning.
- S. or M.S. in Engineering, Science, Geology, or a related field (Ph.D. preferred).
- Professional registration preferred.
- Minimum of 10 years of progressively responsible experience in environmental services, water utility, and/or consulting.
- Strong leadership and organizational development skills, with a demonstrated ability to motivate diverse, inclusive teams.
- Widely recognized technical leadership through research, publications, innovation, and industry standards.
- Strong business acumen, strategic thinking, interpersonal, relationship‑building, influencing, analytical, decision‑making, and negotiation skills.
