Job Description:

The Career & Techincal Education and Workforce Development Director is responsible for the organization, operation, and management of the CTE program and Workforce Development for Alexandria City Public Schools. Under these responsibilities, the Director oversees all CTE and workforce planning, development, implementation, direction, and assessment. Furthermore, the Director works cooperatively and strategically with local, State, regional, and national officials. The 240-day Licensed Adminstration position, reports to the Chief of Teaching, Learning, and Leadership.

Qualifications:
  • Education: A Master's degree is required, Doctorate preferred.
  • Certificates & Licenses: A Valid Virginia Department of Education Teaching Post Graduate License, with an endorsement within a CTE field (E.g. Technology Education), and with the endorsement in Adminstration & Supervison PreK-12, or eligibility to obtain the appropriate endorsement(s) upon hiring. Please note the endorsement of Adminstration & Supervison PreK-12 is not a stand alone endorsement.
  • Experience: Minimum of five years of experience as an administrator. Demonstrated experience with Career, Technical and Community Education. Demonstrated leadership qualities for working effectively with students, teaching staff, administrative staff, City agencies and the community.
Essential Functions:
  • Helps local school administrators develop local plans, establish budgets and keep records of expenditures for career, technical and community education.
  • Oversees the Perkins V grant and multiple other grants
  • Receives and coordinates reports of activities in the program of career, technical and community education.
  • Interprets the program of career, technical and community education.
  • Helps secure facilities, equipment, teaching staff, instructional materials and supplies essential to effective instruction.
  • Assists in studies and surveys to determine needs for career, technical and community education.
  • Maintains a close relationship with community, business and industrial establishments through personal contacts, educational programs, and lay advisory groups.
  • Provides periodic evaluation of supervised programs.
  • Helps schools provide equal educational opportunities for all students.
  • Participates on the Alexandria/Arlington Workforce Investment Board, Northern Virginia Regional Partnership, Alexandria Employment Commission and the Alexandria Education Partnership.
  • Recruits, hires, and evaluates teaching and support staff.
  • Performs other related duties, as assigned, to ensure the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.
  • Work with secondary principals and CTE program teams to develop, monitor, and evaluate Career Pathway Programs of Study district delivered CTE Programs, which include: a rigorous curriculum approved by the state, alignment of programs of study to district academic assessments and the Common Career Technical Core (CCTC) Standards and access to a technical assessment leading to an industry-approved credential for all students completing a program of study
  • Inventory, develop, and evaluate business and labor relationships while continuing to develop new and more effective relationships to the benefit of students and business and labor.
  • Expand relationships with trade organizations to foster seamless transitions to apprenticeship programs for trade-bound students. Work with district leaders and principals to design, develop, and implement work-based learning opportunities for all students that may include visitations, shadowing, internships, paid employment, and instructional program delivery at worksites.
  • Gather, analyze, and interpret a variety of data, and utilize data to plan strategies for program improvements, advancements and additions.
  • Leads ongoing curriculum development among CTE programs, in alignment with district curricula, advisory committee recommendations, and state requirements to ensure the ACPS' CTE programs engage student interests and meet the current needs of business and industry. Supports the development and implementation of course-level competencies.
  • Support and promote active participation of teachers and students in Career and Technical Student Organizations (CTSOs)
  • Represent the Local Education Agency (LEA) at local, state, and national conferences and serve on tasks force and other committees as deemed appropriate.
  • Supervises the workforce development specialist and other grant funded positions related to CTE
Compensation:

Placed on the Administrator LAS-G grade, determined by The ACPS Licensed Administrator Salary Scale.

Clearances:
  • Criminal Justice Fingerprint/Background Clearance.
  • Tuberculosis Skin Test.
  • Public Health Compliance - Must follow safety and health protocols.
