Potomac Crescent Waldorf School is seeking a full-time early childhood (EC) assistant teacher for children aged 3- to 6-years old for the school year. The hours are 7:30 a.m.
- 3:00 p.m. Monday-Friday and include outdoor forest day programs on Thursdays and Fridays. The position includes the following roles and duties:
EC Morning Assistant
This is a dedicated or floating position, depending on need, that supports EC morning programs and includes the following:
- Assisting with student drop-offs at the beginning of the day
- Caring for children during before-care programming
- Transitioning the children to their morning programs
- Assisting lead teachers in pre-K and/or mixed-age-kindergarten classes, following PCWS pedagogical and safety guidelines
- Weekly check-in meetings with lead teacher
Afternoon Program Assistant
The EC assistant will help oversee the afternoon program and carry out the following elements of the program:
- Preparing the classroom for rest time
- Transitioning the children from their morning programs
- Overseeing lunch with the children
- Settling the children for rest and story time
- Gently transitioning the children from rest time to free play or other activities
- Dismissing children who leave after the afternoon program and/or transitioning children to the extended day program
- Tidying and cleaning classroom(s) and other spaces used so they are ready for the extended day program or morning classes
The ideal candidate will have early childhood teaching experience, a warm and gentle classroom presence with strong social and communication skills, the ability to work cooperatively with other teachers, the ability to work outdoors in all safe weather, and an openness to training and guidance about how Waldorf pedagogy supports our curriculum. A commitment to our principles of diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice and a willingness to participate in ongoing work related to this is essential.
Waldorf early childhood training and/or experience is highly valued.

This is an exempt, salaried position with paid leave and includes faculty meetings and work days at the beginning and end of the school year, as well as monthly early childhood department meetings.
It may also include additional time for teacher collaboration on programming, the well-being of students, and support of school festivals and events.
