High School - Social Studies Teacher

Facilitates student success in academic and interpersonal skills through implementing district approved curriculum, documenting teaching and student progress/activities/outcomes, developing lesson plans, modeling the necessary skills for assigned tasks, providing a safe and optimal learning environment, and giving feedback to students, parents, and administration regarding student progress, expectations, and goals. This is a Licensed High School 10‑month, 195‑day Teacher position, reporting to the School Principal.

• Education: A Bachelor's Degree from an Accredited College or University in a Related Field is required; a Master's Degree is preferred.
• Certificates & Licenses: A Valid Virginia Department of Education Teaching Provisional, Collegiate, or Post Graduate License Raad with an endorsement in History & Social Sciences, or eligibility to obtain the Teaching License with the appropriate endorsement upon hiring. Please note that the History & Social Sciences –_x Middle School 6‑8 endorsement is not an appropriate endorsement for this position type/level.

• Collaborates with instructional staff, other school personnel, parents, and community resources to improve overall student outcomes and meet established classroom objectives in support of the school improvement plan.
• Counsels students on performance improvement, health status, problem‑solving techniques, and various personal issues.
• Demonstrates methods required to perform classroom or subject‑specific assignments to provide an effective program that addresses individual student requirements.
• Directs assistants, student teachers, instructional assistants, volunteers, and student workers to provide an effective classroom program and address the needs of individual students.
• Instructs students in academic, interpersonal, and daily living skills through a defined course of study.
• Manages student behavior to provide a safe and optimal learning environment.
• Monitors students in various educational environments (e.g., classroom, playground, field trips, nap times) to ensure safety and positivity.
• Participates in meetings to convey or gather information required to perform functions.
• Prepares written materials (grades, attendance, anecdotal records, etc.) to document student progress and meet mandated requirements.
• Reports incidents (fights, suspected child abuse, suspected substance abuse, etc.) to maintain safety, provide a positive learning environment, and and comply with the Education Code and school policies.
• Performs other related duties as assigned to ensure efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.

• Step Placement and Salary for this position is determined by The ACPS Teachers and Other Licensed Staff Salary Scale.
