We're seeking a detail-oriented Staff Accountant to join our finance team. In this role, you'll support the Accounting Manager by maintaining accurate financial records, reconciling accounts, and preparing monthly reports for leadership. The ideal candidate has a strong background in public accounting, inter-jurisdictional reconciliations, and contract or project-based accounting.Key Responsibilities
- Maintain and reconcile monthly financial records, statements, and reports.
- Prepare and analyze financial data for executive and special reports.
- Review figures, postings, and documentation for accuracy and proper coding.
- Reconcile all bank accounts and resolve discrepancies promptly.
- Process accounts payable ledgers; prepare fixed asset depreciation and accrual schedules.
- Assist Human Resources with payroll processing.
- Track and manage financial instruments such as bonds, loans, and other investments.
- Prepare inter-jurisdictional and inter-agency billing.
- Participate in organizational training and development programs.
- Collaborate with other departments to share relevant financial information as needed.
- Contribute to outreach activities, such as career panels and guided tours, when requested.
- Support the organization's sustainability and safety initiatives through daily decision-making and work practices.
- Perform additional duties and special projects as assigned.
- Associate's degree in Accounting or related field required;
Bachelor's degree preferred. - Minimum of 3 years of accounting experience (public or utility accounting preferred).
- Solid knowledge of GAAP and GASB principles.
- Experience using enterprise accounting systems; proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Microsoft Dynamics preferred.
- Strong analytical, mathematical, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including presentation ability.
- Highly organized, with attention to detail and the ability to meet deadlines.
