Accounting Assistant

Beacon Hill Financial is partnering with a local company in the search for a detail‑oriented Accounting Assistant to join their accounting team. This position will report directly to the Controller and play a key role in supporting the company's day‑to‑day financial operations. The ideal candidate will assist with accounts payable, accounts receivable, job costing, reconciliations, and general accounting support. Accounting Assistant - Alexandria, VA

• Record daily financial transactions in the company's accounting system, including invoices, bills, deposits, credit card activity, and journal entries
• Support accounts payable by entering vendor and subcontractor invoices, verifying approvals, and assisting with payment processing
• Assist with accounts receivable, including preparing customer invoices, applying payments, and monitoring aging reports
• Maintain accurate job costing by coding expenses to the appropriate jobs, cost centers, and classes
• Perform regular bank and credit card reconciliations and investigate discrepancies
• Assist with payroll preparation, including collecting timesheets and allocating labor costs to the appropriate jobs
• Track subcontractor payments and maintain documentation to support 1099 reporting
• Assist with monthly financial reports, including Profit & Loss, Balance Sheet, and job cost reports
• Maintain organized financial records and ensure compliance with internal controls and company policies
• Collaborate with project managers and operations staff to provide financial support and job cost updates
• Support month‑end and year‑end close processes by preparing reconciliations, schedules, and supporting documentation
• Coordinate with external accountants during audits and tax preparation by compiling requested information
