At our site in Alexandria, Minnesota, we design, manufacture, test and provide service support of LGC, Biosearch Technologies laboratory instrumentation and consumables. Products produced and distributed from this location enable scientists to make the world a safer place and enables customers in areas such as developing and identifying new plant hybrids, testing and tracking of food products for food safety, and research to support human diagnostic testing.

The Alexandria site represents a centre of excellence for Biosearch Technologies in the areas of Engineering, Manufacturing, and Field Service by supplying and supporting customers and team members around the world. Our services are accredited to the ISO 9001 quality standard.

Job Description

This Manufacturing Scientist is responsible for actively developing, optimizing and troubleshooting production processes for the Alexandria site’s Column Packing, Custom Formulation, and Poly Frit Production teams, and their supporting Quality Control activities.

Essential Functions
  • Process Development & Optimization
    • Partner with team members to ensure that new processes and products are transferred from R&D to Production in a complete and timely manner.
    • Proactively interface with production, customers, other LGC teams to identify and implement continuous improvement opportunities that positively impact quality, capacity, cost control, and customer satisfaction.
    • Develop experiments and test plans, including authoring and executing protocols, to validate manufacturing and QC processes.
    • Partner with R&D and Lab Operations to define product stability and shipping requirements.
  • Product and Process Technical Support & Troubleshooting
    • Partner with Production, Quality Assurance, and Customer Service to analyze customer and/or product/process‑related risks in connection with CAPA, non‑conformance, audit findings, and product/production risk assessments.
    • Lead or support investigations and resolution of product failures.
    • Effectively communicate with internal and external stakeholders to collect data, troubleshoot issues, and provide timeline, accurate responses.
  • Documentation & Training
    • Ensure that all processes are accurately documented and released through LGC’s documentation control procedures.
    • Ensure staff are appropriately trained on all required procedures prior to performing tasks and verify training as needed.
  • Data Analysis
    • Apply scientific methodology to testing, data collection and analysis and provide actionable information to key stakeholders to enable informed decision making.
    • Make recommendations to management as necessary regarding resources required to meet manufacturing objectives, including raw materials, equipment, staffing, and production space.
  • Cross‑Functional Collaboration
    • Manage the priorities of each team to ensure alignment with evolving company and customer needs, and communicate those priorities clearly to stakeholders.
  • Product Development and Sustainability
    • Represent Operations in design team efforts for new products, product improvements, and new‑use implementations.
    • Assist Engineering, R&D and Lab Operations in product and process improvements.
    • Support Engineering Change Order and Change Control processes.
    • Collaborate with R&D on OQ and PQ execution and completion for product and process validation.
  • Perform other duties as required.
