Job Description

The Commercial Application Scientist is a versatile role crafted to support the company’s revenue and margin attainment and market development objectives. It plays a critical role alongside the company’s Client Executives by assisting in account management and facilitating client discovery processes to identify and address opportunities. This role will require a blend of laboratory process knowledge, understanding of scientific techniques and associated applications, consultative discovery skills, client communications, client management and service, product expertise, critical thinking, and team selling skills.

This position will collaborate with Client Executives, Scientists, Marketing, and other professionals in the sales process.

Responsibilities
  • Sales Support:
    Provides technical sales assistance to achieve the company’s revenue and margin goals. Involves client discovery from the C-level to the laboratory floor, identifying relevant solutions, quantifying the value proposition, assisting with proposal development, and implementation planning to achieve sales results. Develops implementation and project plans aligned with client operations, facilities, and timelines; coordinates technical tactics, resources, and projects during the sales cycle with Client Executives.
  • Solution Engineering:
    Identifies and communicates unique client requirements to the LGC team, tests laboratory assays in the context of LGC solutions, and leads the evaluation of external third-party products or services when needed. Prepares implementation plans for assigned accounts and briefs service and science personnel on customer requirements prior to shipment and installations.
  • Industry and Product Knowledge:
    Maintains understanding of industry trends, laboratory technologies, scientific applications, client operations, and competitive offerings to position LGC products; represents LGC at briefings, meetings and trade events.
  • Other Duties as Assigned:
    Responds with flexibility to company needs by addressing corporate initiatives when requested by management.
Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • PhD in biosciences or a related field, or equivalent experience
  • At least 2 years of market-facing experience in a laboratory environment
  • Familiarity with laboratory processes
  • Experience in genotyping, chemistry and next-generation sequencing (NGS)
  • Prior technical sales support and relationship management
  • Strong digital literacy, including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Ability to travel as needed
