SummaryThis position is responsible for installing and maintaining computer hardware, software, and peripherals, as well as troubleshooting a variety of computer issues. Performs related work as required to achieve the objectives of the department. Works under the supervision of the IT Director.
Essential Functions- Install, maintain, troubleshoot, and upgrade a wide range of hardware and software, including computer hardware, systems, smartphones, communications equipment, etc.
- Train users in the effective use of applications and various hardware devices, and provide user assistance to all City staff
- Pull cable and/or direct the rewiring of cables as required for new installations and office reconfiguration; climb and work on ladders for installations and cabling above head
- Identify and prepare hardware for disposal when appropriate and ensure hardware is stripped and secured prior to disposal.
- Coordinate with vendors and service providers for equipment repairs and maintenance as needed
- Maintain current knowledge of hardware/software developments and best practices
- Perform all other job related duties as assigned.
- Knowledge of maintenance and repair of IT equipment
- Knowledge of installation, assembly, and configuration of computers, monitors, and peripherals such as printers, scanners, smartphones, tablets, and security devices
- Knowledge of installation, configuration, and upgrading of various operating systems, software, and hardware devices
- Basic understanding of network devices
- Knowledge of IT security
- Diagnostic, repair, and testing skills for a wide range of hardware and software issues
- Ability to diagnose and resolve technical problems in a fast‑paced environment
- Ability to work independently to install, configure, troubleshoot, and repair IT hardware and software
- Ability to interact with end‑users of varying skill levels and to provide appropriate training and assistance
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships
- Must be a graduate from an accredited high school or possess a GED. Associate’s Degree or relative certifications in Information Technology preferred.
- At least 2 years of experience in technical support, desktop support, or a similar role required.
- Must have a valid driver license and driving record suitable for insurability.
- Willing to work non‑standard hours and overtime as needed.
- Must be physically able to perform the essential functions of the position (walking, standing, squatting, bending, twisting, kneeling, climbing, and lift a minimum of 50 pounds).
