Established SME Engineering Business | c £45,000 | Full Time (37.5 hours) | Office Based
We’re working with a well-established, privately owned engineering business that designs and builds highly specialised technical solutions for major UK clients. This is a clean, precision-led build environment, advanced technical assembly and integration rather than a traditional workshop setting.
It’s a practical, delivery-focused SME where design, build and finance work closely together.
They are now looking for an experienced Bookkeeper to take ownership of the day-to-day finance function in a fully office-based role.
This is not a layered corporate environment. It’s a technically driven business where accuracy, cash discipline and clear reporting matter.
The Role
You’ll be responsible for the smooth running of the finance function, managing one Accounts Assistant and reporting directly into the Finance Director and Managing Director.
Your remit will cover:
* Purchase ledger and supplier management
* Sales ledger and credit control
* Bank reconciliations
* VAT preparation and submission
* Payroll processing
* Cashflow monitoring
* Month-end processes
* Supporting the production of management accounts
You’ll work closely with the FD and MD, as well as operational managers, ensuring financial information reflects what’s happening across projects, stock and technical builds.
The business has implemented Sage across finance and is now embedding it further into procurement, stock control and reporting. Someone comfortable improving processes and tightening controls will thrive here.
About You
You’ll likely:
* Have solid, end-to-end bookkeeping experience within an SME
* Be confident handling VAT and payroll independently
* Be comfortable supporting management accounts
* Have experience supervising or supporting a junior team member
* Understand project-led, engineering or technical manufacturing environments
* Prefer being on site, close to operations
You’ll need to be organised, commercially aware and steady — someone who keeps things controlled without unnecessary noise.
