Coastal Engineer; career grade

Overview

Do you have a passion for the coast? Do you have the desire to deliver? We have an exciting opportunity for a Coastal Engineer to join our Coastal Service. The post holder will support delivery of the Council’s Flood and Coastal Erosion Risk Management (FCERM) services across a varied and challenging coastline.

• Plan, design, procure and supervise coastal engineering maintenance works programmes.
• Act as the main point of contact for minor in‑house coastal maintenance undertaken by NFDC Engineering Works team.
• Contribute to the coastal capital programme and provide technical support across the Coastal Service.
• Support delivery of the Hurst Spit to Lymington Strategy and implement the Christchurch Bay & Harbour FCERM Strategy.

• Solid experience working in coastal environments and a good understanding of FCERM activities and procedures.
• Qualified to degree level (or equivalent) in a relevant environmental or engineering discipline.
• Sound contract management knowledge and a practical problem‑solving approach.
• Strong IT skills, including AutoCAD and GIS.
• Accurate record‑keeping and effective communication.
• Good interpersonal skills and proven stakeholder engagement.
• Suitable experience of (coastal) engineering maintenance works, including site supervision.
• Experience of Environment Agency business case development and partnership investment strategies desirable.

• £40,174 up to £49,751 (career grade) plus essential user car allowance £1,239.
• 27–28 days leave plus an additional 5 days for 5 years local authority continuous service.
