POSITION SUMMARY
A Solid Waste Technician is responsible for safely operating a collection truck, and providing prompt, courteous and complete waste removal services for customers. A Solid Waste Technician is also responsible for ensuring his or her vehicle is in compliance with the Company’s safety standards prior to operating the vehicle, ensures that all Company, state and federal regulations are adhered to at all times while operating the vehicle, and completes vehicle condition reports (“VCRs”) on a daily basis to ensure that any vehicle defects are repaired in a timely manner.
PRINCIPALRESPONSIBILITIES
- Conduct facility, equipment, and waste/material verification and monitoring activities at the Solid Waste Collection and Recycling Center, including inspections, inventories, and coordination and support of maintenance and repairs.
- Operate equipment in support of field operations, including but not limited to forklifts, front-load trash trucks, roll-off trucks, front-end loaders, stake-bed trucks, lift gates, trailers, blowers, and ladders. Use tools, including but not limited to drills, saws, and torque wrenches.
- Collect solid waste and recyclable materials (e.g., cardboard, mixed paper, plastics etc.) placed in roll-offs, recycle containers, and dumpsters.
- For solid waste accumulated at the Solid Waste Collection and Recycling Center, screen for prohibited and recyclable items, segregate and properly store prohibited items, feed through a conveyer to a horizontal ram baler with automatic wire tying head, and weigh, tag, store and then load the bales for shipment.
- Coordinate and oversee collection of recycleable and C&D waste at the Solid Waste Collection and Recycling Center.
- Transport solid waste to a local landfill and recyclable materials to a local vendor and offload.
- Respond to members of the workforce inquiries and generate and maintain applicable records and reports.
- Performs other, job-related duties as assigned.
- Knowledge of light and heavy equipment operation.
- Ability to use hand and power tools as needed.
- Knowledge of basic vehicle inspection and maintenance, including but not limited to: check tire pressure, check oil and water levels.
- Demonstrates accuracy, thoroughness and attention to detail.
- Must be able to prioritize, stay focused and handle multiple, diverse responsibilities.
- High School Diploma
- Valid & Current Driver's License
- Ability to obtain a CDL Class B License
- Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE L clearance
- At least one (1) year of experience operating equipment. (e.g., front-loading trash truck, waste baler, wire-tier, front-end loader, forklift)
