Software Engineer — Avionics & Simulation
Full-time (direct hire)
About the Role Join a team advancing mission‑critical aerospace systems. In this role, you’ll craft reliable, real‑time software that powers avionics, simulation environments, and ground control operations. You’ll translate hardware specifications into working code, collaborate closely with flight test teams, and contribute tools that accelerate system validation.
Responsibilities
- Build real‑time embedded applications that support flight systems, simulation labs, and ground operations
- Turn engineering datasheets into robust device drivers and structured data interfaces
- Integrate microcontrollers with sensors, actuators, and telemetry modules to deliver end‑to‑end functionality
- Implement and harden communications over Serial, CAN, and Ethernet with attention to throughput and reliability
- Design automated test coverage and participate in CI pipelines and peer reviews to raise code quality
- Partner with flight testers and operators to diagnose issues, tune performance, and enable smooth missions
- Produce clear technical documentation covering system architecture, interfaces, and deployment runbooks
- Contribute within Agile ceremonies; use Git Lab, Jira, and Confluence to plan, track, and review work
- Enhance simulator and visualization tooling to improve system‑level testing and verification
Experience/Requirements
- BS in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Physics or 4+ years of directly relevant experience
- Advanced C/C++ for hardware/firmware integration on Linux (from spec sheet to functioning device), including:
- Microcontroller I/O, ADC calibration, GPIO, switches/controllers
- Protocol work across Serial, CAN, and Ethernet
- Fluency with Git, CI/CD, and structured code review practices
- Proven ability to ship clean, maintainable software in complex, safety‑aware systems
- Comfort operating in a fast‑paced R&D environment with evolving requirements
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in aerospace, robotics, or high‑performance vehicles
- Scripting with Python and shell
- Familiarity with nix build systems
- SQL/SQLite for telemetry and system logging
- Physics‑based simulator and visualization development
- Multi‑process messaging frameworks (ZeroMQ, MQTT)
- Hands‑on Agile using Jira, Git Lab, Confluence
- Telecommunications/RF connectivity exposure
- UI development for flight/space operations
- Chef‑prepared lunches and all‑day snacks/refreshments
