Why does the job exist?
Social workers provide psychosocial support to individuals, families, and vulnerable populations so they can cope with chronic, acute, or terminal illnesses, such as Alzheimer's disease, cancer, or AIDS. They also advise family caregivers, counsel patients, and help plan for patients' needs after discharge from hospitals. They may arrange for at-home services, such as meals-on-wheels or home care. Some work on interdisciplinary teams that evaluate certain kinds of patients, such as geriatric or organ transplant patients.
Some social workers help clients who face a disability, life-threatening disease, social problems, such as inadequate housing, unemployment, or substance abuse. Social workers also assist families that have serious domestic conflicts, sometimes involving children or spousal abuse. Additionally, they may conduct research, advocate for improved services, or become involved in planning or policy development.
How does it get done?
Will work to improve social and behavioral functioning of children while placed in the Receiving Center and supplement the e- case management services being provided by the primary worker as well as present case findings, and review case records; assist in arranging support services needed for the child/youth; maintain accurate records and progress notes; and assist with treatment and discharge planning and risk assessments when the child/youth is ready for discharge.

Ideal Candidate
Experience as it relates to:
Associate's Degree in Human Services or Social Sciences and two (2) years experience in mental health and/or substance abuse counseling. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling four (4) years may substitute for the required education and experience.
Employment Requirements
Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License. Pre-employment background investigation is required and is conditional pending results.
Working Conditions
Position will perform work primarily in an office setting with extensive computer and phone usage and exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT). Exposure to potentially violent hard-to-manage patients in volatile situations. Some travel may be required. May be required to work weekends, holidays and overtime.
