Housing Support Specialist at Chicanos Por La Causa, Inc. (CPLC)
OverviewJoin the Women's Housing Navigation team to deliver trauma-informed, client-centered support to women experiencing homelessness in Albuquerque. The shelter offers a safe environment with meals, an overnight bed, and secure storage. The team guides guests toward housing stability and a plan for ongoing support, with a focus on low-barrier, trauma-informed services.
Schedule & LocationWe are hiring for a variety of day, swing, and overnight shifts. The team works weekends and holidays as assigned to keep shelter operations running year round.

As the Housing Support Specialist, you will combine housing case management and intake coordination to ensure a seamless service experience for guests entering and residing in the shelter. Your daily routine includes intake assessments, data entry, crisis intervention, individualized service planning, connection to community resources, and ongoing support to promote housing stability and self-sufficiency. You will help ensure compliance with shelter policies while fostering a safe, respectful, and empowering environment.
Responsibilities- Conduct intake & assessments:
Perform intake interviews, complete assessments (e.g., VI-SPDAT), and maintain accurate records in HMIS and City Emergency Bed Tracker. - Provide case management & housing navigation:
Develop individualized service plans, offer emotional support, and connect guests to housing, employment, and community resources. - Ensure shelter safety & operations:
Monitor dorms, enforce rules, manage conflicts using de-escalation techniques, and coordinate pet care arrangements. - Facilitate community engagement:
Organize group activities, foster a trauma-informed and culturally competent environment, and promote resident participation. - Maintain documentation & compliance:
Track services, incidents, and metrics; ensure adherence to health, safety, and policy standards.
- High school diploma or equivalent; in lieu of education, equivalent experience in social services or related fields will be considered.
- Certified Peer Support Worker preferred.
- Prior experience in a shelter, community organization, or social service setting is a plus.
- Experience with individuals experiencing homelessness or in supportive housing is highly desirable.
- Understanding of homelessness issues and familiarity with available community resources.
- Basic computer skills for record-keeping and reporting (e.g., Microsoft Office, client management software).
- Preferred valid driver’s license and ability to travel locally as needed.
