Job TitleControl Wireman
Job PurposeA substation wireman performs routine maintenance and emergency repairs on circuit breakers, transformers, power cables, and other elements at a substation.

- Termination of cables in the relay control panels, as well as any outdoor equipment (breakers, VT’s, etc.).
- All necessary wiring supplies will be available, minus standard hand tools (screwdrivers, wire cutters, needle nose pliers, etc.).
- Supplied tools include crimpers, wire strippers and cable cutters.
- Instruction will be given on site as to proper wiring technique desired by the customer, as well as training on proper shield grounding of the control cable.
- An understanding of wiring diagrams is necessary, as this will be one of the primary means to determine cable location and termination sequence.
- Assistance in correcting factory wiring may be required, as well as re‑wiring existing circuits during a cutover at brown field substations.
- Able to pass a pre‑employment drug screen.
- Complete a satisfactory criminal background check.
- Able to work overtime and travel out of town for periods of time.
- Able to climb ladders, stand for extended periods, able to lift 70 lbs.
- Must have a valid driver’s license and currently have and be able to maintain a good driving record.
- NETA certified a plus
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Bachelors or Associates Degree in Electrical/Electronic technology, or Military experience preferred
- Experience with the following test equipment:
- Power Factor
- Ductor
- Megger
- CT ration & saturation
- Hi‑Pot
- Knowledge of the following equipment:
- Circuit Breakers
- Low Voltage, Medium Voltage, High Voltage | LV/MV/HV
- Transformers
- Switchgear
- Motors
- PT's & CCVT's
