Job DescriptionCelnet is seeking an experienced Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD) Locator / Operator to join our team. This position plays a critical role in the safe and efficient installation of underground communications infrastructure. The ideal candidate is safety-focused, detail-oriented, and experienced with HDD operations from setup to completion.
Key Responsibilities- Locate and track drill head using locating equipment
- Operate HDD equipment safely and efficiently across job sites
- Read and interpret bore plans, profiles, and utility locates
- Communicate effectively with drill operator and crew
- Ensure compliance with safety standards and local regulations
- Perform daily equipment checks and pre-job inspections
- Assist with mud mixing, tooling changes, and job site setup/breakdown
- Maintain accurate bore logs and production reports
- Identify and avoid existing underground utilities
- Troubleshoot drilling and locating issues in real time
- Follow all safety protocols and wear appropriate PPE
- Minimum 2 years of HDD Locator and/or Operator experience
- Strong knowledge of HDD locating systems and drilling techniques
- Experience working around underground utilities
- Ability to read utility maps, bore profiles, and construction plans
- Valid CDL Class A with Tanker endorsement
- Experience operating Vermeer 24x40 or Ditch Witch AT mud motor systems
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Commitment to safety and quality workmanship
- Fiber optic construction experience
- Experience in urban or congested utility environments
