Position Summary

We are currently seeking a Biologist-Environmental Specialist to join our team of biologists, ecologists, and river engineers who support a wide variety of challenging and complex water resources projects in the southwest and throughout the nation. This position offers hands‑on technical experience, exposure to diverse project types, and clear opportunities for professional growth and advancement within the firm.

Essential Job Functions
  • Conduct field surveys to inventory and assess vegetation, wildlife, and wildlife habitat conditions.
  • Perform wetland delineations using current federal and state methodologies and document findings.
  • Prepare biological assessments and supporting documentation to ensure compliance with the Endangered Species Act (ESA).
  • Assist in preparing and overseeing environmental permitting, including Clean Water Act Sections 404 and 401 permit applications.
  • Develop NEPA documentation and coordinate analyses required for federal environmental review.
  • Conduct GIS‑based mapping and spatial analysis to support surveys, impact assessments, and restoration planning.
  • Support stream and river restoration planning, including design input, site assessments, and monitoring recommendations.
  • Provide environmental oversight during construction to verify permit conditions, avoidance/mitigation measures, and habitat protection.
  • Support watershed planning efforts by synthesizing field data, modeling outputs, and stakeholder needs into actionable recommendations.
Requirements Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Ecology, Biology, Natural Resources, or a closely related field and 1–5 years of professional experience; OR Master’s degree in Ecology, Biology, Natural Resources, or a closely related field and 1–2 years of professional experience.
  • Knowledge of local plant, fish, and/or wildlife species and their habitat requirements.
  • Demonstrated experience developing habitat assessment, mitigation, and/or monitoring plans.
  • Demonstrated experience preparing technical reports and regulatory documentation for NEPA, CWA, and ESA compliance.
  • Proven oral and written communication skills, including the ability to present findings to technical and non‑technical audiences.
  • Proficiency with GIS for data collection, mapping, and analysis.
  • Experience using field data collection equipment, including GPS units.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to travel to project locations throughout the Southwestern United States as needed (regular overnight travel). Travel is estimated to be up to 50% yearly.
  • Ability to perform fieldwork in rugged conditions for extended periods including walking, standing, bending, and kneeling.
  • Ability to work outdoors in a range of weather conditions (heat, rain, wind, cold) during fieldwork.
  • Ability to lift and carry materials/equipment up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to sit at a workstation and use a computer for extended periods of time (up to 8 hours/day). Additional hours may be required based on project needs.
  • Manual dexterity to use a computer mouse, keyboard, and other tools.
  • Visual acuity to read and interpret documents.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in-person and via electronic means.
