Retail Associate/ Customer Service, Customer Service Rep, Cashier, Retail Support
As the first and last person our customers interact with in stores, you’re tasked with creating a lasting and positive memory of their Nelson’s shopping experience by always maintaining a positive and professional attitude, and working to deliver excellent customer service, while getting them through the check‑out process quickly and easily. Our cashiers are key in helping us provide a positive shopping experience.
Responsibilities- Deliver excellent customer service with a positive, professional attitude
- Ensure merchandise is accurately rung up and meets the needs of the customer
- Engage in safe work practices and encourage others to do the same
- Acknowledge and greet customers with a positive attitude when entering or leaving the store
- Be available to assist in other areas of the store as needed (stocking)
- Stand for long periods of time
- Manage transactions with customers using cash registers
- Collect payments whether in cash, credit, or EBT
- Issue receipts, refunds, change or tickets
- Resolve customer complaints, guide them and provide relevant information
- Maintain clean and tidy checkout areas
- Track transactions on balance sheets and report any discrepancies
- Handle merchandise returns and exchanges
- Pay attention to detail – extremely important in this role
- Hourly part‑time: 25‑35 hours per week, with more hours possible during holidays
- Requires afternoon availability, Tuesday‑Wednesday and Friday‑Saturday
- Physical ability to perform tasks that may require prolonged standing, lifting of food products and placing items into bags, answering phones, writing down phone orders, and other necessary activities
- Must be able to lift 30 pounds without assistance; may lift over 40 pounds with or without assistance
- 2 years of cashier experience
- 6 months of retail experience detecting common signs of shoplifting
- Work experience as a retail cashier
- Familiarity with electronic equipment, such as a cash register
- Strong communication and time‑management skills
- Customer satisfaction‑oriented
- High school diploma
- Maintain an accurate cash drawer, ensuring that all transactions are accounted for by the end of the shift
- Assist customers with bagging and carrying products as needed
- Maintain a clean work environment, keeping the register clear for incoming customers
- Other duties as requested
- Dependable – more reliable than spontaneous
- Good time management – shows up early or on time, reports to work when scheduled
- People‑oriented – enjoys interacting with people and working on group projects
- Adaptable/flexible – enjoys work that requires frequent shifts in direction
Salary: $14.00 per hour
