Chemical Technician
OVERVIEW:
Seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Chemical Technician to join a dynamic Research & Development team. This position plays a vital role in supporting scientific experiments, conducting chemical analyses, and assisting in the development of new materials, products, or processes. The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in chemistry and laboratory techniques, with a passion for innovation, safety, and precision.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Prepare, measure, and mix chemical compounds for experimental use
- Operate, calibrate, and maintain lab equipment, such as spectrometers, pH meters, titrators, and chromatographs
- Organize, label, and track samples moving through testing and processing
- Keep accurate inventory records where needed
- Perform preventative maintenance and calibration of minor equipment and instruments
- Conduct routine testing in accordance with research protocols
- Collect, record, and analyze data from experiments and report findings to R&D scientists and engineers
- Assist in the formulation and development of new products, processes, or materials
- Ensure lab safety protocols and regulatory compliance (e.g., OSHA, EPA, ISO) are followed
- Maintain accurate laboratory records, including chemical inventories and data logs
- Support scale-up and pilot production processes when transitioning R&D work to manufacturing
- Participate in team meetings, contribute ideas, and communicate project progress and issues
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education & Experience:
- Associate or Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or related scientific field
- Laboratory experience (1–3 years preferred) in an industrial or academic lab required
- Experience in a manufacturing, research, or product development setting is a plus
Skills & Competencies:
- Knowledge of basic chemistry concepts and laboratory practices
- Proficiency in using lab instrumentation and analytical tools
- Proficiency in minor equipment maintenance, calibration, and repair
- High attention to detail with strong documentation skills
- Ability to follow SOPs, lab procedures, and safety guidelines
- Comfortable working independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and laboratory software (e.g., LIMS, ELN)
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Laboratory environment, including chemicals, solvents, compressed gases, and laboratory equipment
- Use of PPE (lab coat, gloves, goggles, etc.)
- Occasional lifting of containers or equipment up to 25 lbs
- Requires standing for extended periods
JOB TYPE: This is a Contract - to - Permanent position, working 40 hours weekly
HOURLY RATE RANGE: $22-$23, based on qualifications
