The Director of Nursing, Surgical Services provides 24-hour leadership and accountability for perioperative and procedural services within a high-volume surgical environment. This role oversees clinical, administrative, and financial operations while leading multidisciplinary teams to achieve quality, safety, and patient satisfaction goals.

Key Responsibilities

Provide 24-hour leadership and accountability for assigned perioperative and procedural departments in alignment with organizational standards, mission, and vision.

Direct, coordinate, and evaluate department operations, including clinical quality, patient satisfaction, employee engagement, and regulatory compliance.

Lead and mentor nurse leaders and staff, supporting professional growth and succession planning.

Serve as a change agent by establishing collaborative relationships with physicians and interdisciplinary partners.

Monitor performance metrics and implement strategies to improve quality, safety, and operational outcomes.

Maintain responsibility for administrative, financial, and clinical performance across assigned departments.

Surgical Services Scope

Oversight of multiple operating rooms and procedure suites within a high-volume surgical program (600+ cases per month).

Leadership responsibility for services including Operating Room, GI/Endoscopy, PACU, Pre-Op, and Pre-Admission Testing.

Management of a multidisciplinary team of approximately 100 clinical and support staff.

Support of an advanced robotic surgery program utilizing multiple robotic platforms and nationally recognized surgical expertise.

Surgical specialties include women’s health, urology, orthopedics, and general surgery.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Nursing from an accredited institution (BSN required; candidates without a BSN must be actively enrolled with a defined completion date).

Current, unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license accepted by the applicable State Board of Nursing.

BLS certification required within 14 days of hire or transfer and prior to providing direct patient care.

Minimum of 5 years of clinical nursing experience, including at least 2–3 years in a leadership or management capacity.

Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.

Demonstrated critical thinking ability, sound judgment, and capacity to work with minimal supervision.

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s degree in Nursing or a related healthcare field.

Certification in a clinical specialty or nursing administration.

Prior leadership experience within a high-volume surgical or perioperative environment.

Experience supporting or managing a robotic surgery program.
