Provide safe, direct patient care utilizing the nursing process in the ambulatory setting. Provide clinical leadership and mentorship to staff, serve as role model, provide full range of patient education, assume relief charge duties when designated, ensure adherence to hospital and departmental policies. Patient care assignments may include neonate, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric age groups.
Detailed Responsibilities- Adhere to and promote the core expectations of the Patient Centered Medical Home or Patient Centered Specialty Practice.
- Assist physicians with special tests, procedures and complex treatments.
- Process data and generate reports; assist in reception and discharge areas; handle patient calls and triage.
- Ensure patient medical records contain necessary information; document medical history or chief complaint; triage and initiate care for walk‑in patients.
- Document lab cultures; ensure follow‑up on abnormal results.
- Assist with or institute emergency measures for sudden adverse developments in patients.
- Assess patient conditions and nursing needs; set goals use appropriate nursing actions.
- Provide and document nursing care; ensure physician orders are carried out.
- Administer medications and perform routine treatments.
- Participate in orientation and evaluation of new personnel.
- Assist team members in patient care; coordinate with other departments and clinics.
- Ensure equipment is maintained; monitor supply and medicine requisitions; maintain stock levels.
- Record and report pertinent observations and reactions to medical staff.
- Serve as a mentor to patients to promote self‑management, hope, and empowerment.
- Provide education for patients and/or families about preventive care, medical issues, and prescribed medical treatment.
- Follow patient safety–related policies, procedures and protocols.
- Seek opportunities to improve patient safety through questioning current policies and processes.
- Identify and report/correct environmental conditions that may put a patient at undue risk.
- Report potential or actual patient safety concerns, medical errors and/or near misses in a timely manner.
- Encourage patients to actively participate in their own care by asking questions and reporting treatments or situations they don't understand.
Essential
Education:
Program Graduate, Nationally Accredited Nursing Graduate.
Nonessential
Education:
Bachelor's Degree, Nursing degree.
Essential
Experience:
RN in NM or equivalent by reciprocal agreement.
Nonessential
Experience:
Bilingual English, Spanish, Keres, Tewa, Tiwa, Towa, Zuni, or Navajo, 3 years directly related experience.
Credentials: CPR for Healthcare/BLS Prov or Prof Rescuers within 30 days; RN in NM or as allowed by reciprocal agreement.
Physical Conditions: Heavy work:
Exerting 50–100 pounds occasionally, 25–50 frequently, 10–20 constantly;
Med Haz:
Mod exposure to chemicals/dangerous equipment/materials;
Tuberculosis testing required upon hire.
