Travel RN – Labor & Delivery / Mother–Baby

The Travel RN – Labor & Delivery / Mother-Baby provides comprehensive nursing care across the antepartum, intrapartum, postpartum, and newborn continuum. This role supports both routine and high-risk obstetric patients and requires strong fetal monitoring, triage, labor, delivery, and newborn stabilization skills.

Antepartum

• Triage and assess all OB patients >20 weeks gestation
• Use OB acuity and triage tools
• Perform labor and fetal assessments
• Evaluate for:
  • Preterm labor (PTL)
  • Preeclampsia
  • Rupture of membranes
  • Decreased fetal movement
  • Vaginal bleeding
  • PPROM
  • Emergency and trauma conditions (MVA, abruptio placentae, etc.)
• Stabilize patients for delivery or transfer to higher level of care when needed

Intrapartum

• Provide labor and delivery care
• Perform fetal monitoring and assessment
• Prepare patients for safe vaginal or cesarean delivery
• Administer medications including:
  • Pitocin, misoprostol, methergine, hemabate
  • Magnesium sulfate, terbutaline
  • Labetalol, nifedipine, hydralazine, insulin
• Stabilize newborns immediately after birth
• Administer newborn medications
• Prepare for scheduled and emergency C-sections

Postpartum & Newborn

• Care for post-vaginal and post-cesarean patients
• Provide newborn care including:
  • Hearing screens
  • Lab draws and IVs
  • Medication administration (Hep B, Vit K, erythromycin, antibiotics)
  • Assist with circumcisions
  • Care for neonatal abstinence syndrome (NAS) infants
  • Phototherapy
  • Hypoglycemia management
  • Stabilization of critically ill newborns for transport

Education

• ADN or ASN

Licensure & Certifications

• Active New Mexico RN License or Compact License
• BLS
• NRP
• AWHONN Intermediate or Advanced Fetal Monitoring
• BLS must be through AHA, American Health & Safety, or client-approved
• Must pass BCA (Basic Cardiac Arrhythmia) exam during first week
  (Failure to pass results in assignment cancellation)

• Minimum 2 years of recent L&D / Mother-Baby experience
• Must be comfortable in high-acuity OB settings
• EPIC experience preferred (training available)
