Communications Director

Overview

Narrative Strategy & Leadership:
Define the overall communications strategy, ensuring all messaging reflects our core values. Lead the Comms team to test, adapt, and scale what works. Media & Narrative Monitoring:
Track local and national media to identify emerging stories, frames, and misinformation. Message Development & Testing:
Turn policy briefs and research findings into clear, compelling messages, testing them to see what resonates with different audiences.

• Narrative Strategy & Leadership:
  Define the overall communications strategy and lead the Comms team to test, adapt, and scale what works.
• Media & Narrative Monitoring:
  Track local and national media to identify emerging stories, frames, and misinformation.
• Message Development & Testing:
  Turn policy briefs and research findings into clear, compelling messages, testing them to see what resonates with different audiences.
• Cross-Functional Collaboration:
  
  Work closely with Policy Tracking, Creatives, and Distribution teams — handing off tested messages and outlines for multimedia content, and ensuring it gets to the right audiences through email, social media, radio, or events.
• Team Leadership:
  Manage and mentor the Communications Manager and Distribution Manager and any junior designers or contractors. Set goals, review work, and foster a culture of innovation, equity, and collaboration.

• 6+ years of experience in communications, research, or advocacy — preferably in New Mexico or a similar context.
• Proven ability to lead a team, set narrative strategy, and manage multiple campaigns at once.
• Strong writing and editing skills — able to turn complex data into clear, actionable messages.
• Bilingual (English/Spanish).
