Hospital Manager – Route 66
Location:
Route 66 Veterinary Emergency & Specialty Center — Albuquerque, NM (On-site)
Reports To:
Hospital Director
The Hospital Manager (HM) is a leader and an integral member of the hospital management team. The HM partners with the Managing Veterinarian (MDVM) and Hospital Director (HD) to deliver a smooth and profitable operation by driving revenue, managing costs, and fostering a hospital culture centered on high-quality patient care and exceptional client service.
Duties & Responsibilities(Including but not limited to)
- Partnership with the Managing Veterinarian and Hospital Director as a collaborative leadership team responsible for the hospital’s overall success.
- Oversees hospital scheduling and manages labor costs in alignment with budgetary goals.
- Participates in weekly leadership meetings with a solution-oriented, collaborative mindset.
- Establishes and tracks goals for the practice and staff using measurable KPIs.
- Acts as a champion for change by identifying, documenting, sharing, and promoting best practices.
- Consciously fosters a positive, resilient hospital culture rooted in trust, teamwork, and accountability.
- Demonstrates a calm, humble, and teachable leadership style while confidently guiding the hospital through change.
- Plans and leads a regular cadence of leadership, department, and employee meetings.
- Oversees and continuously improves hospital operations, workflows, policies, and protocols.
- Ensures compliance with hospital policies, including OSHA, DEA/Controlled Substances, and safety standards.
- Manages workers’ compensation and safety programs.
- Performs quality checks and reviews of client and patient files.
- Partners with IT/Help Desk to resolve technical systems or equipment issues.
- Collaborates with Charge Nurses across Specialty and ER departments to streamline patient communication, transfers, after-hours care, and inter-hospital transport.
- Identifies and executes short- and long-term growth initiatives, including service expansion, staffing needs, pricing strategies, space optimization, and equipment acquisition.
- Works with NVA/Ethos operations and technology partners to support efficient hospital systems.
- Oversees daily people leadership for hospital teams, ensuring accountability, engagement, and performance.
- Provides coaching, feedback, and development support to leaders and direct reports.
- Ensures completion of employee orientation, ongoing training, and performance reviews.
- Implements recognition, engagement, and morale-building initiatives.
- Mediates conflict and reinforces hospital team agreements and behavioral expectations.
- Assists with workforce planning and provides operational support during staffing shortages or high-volume periods.
- Oversees and continuously improves client service workflows, standards, and protocols.
- Trains and holds teams accountable to established SOPs.
- Demonstrates and reinforces the highest level of client service throughout the hospital.
- Manages escalated client concerns and ensures timely, appropriate follow-up.
- Uses client service metrics and feedback to evaluate hospital and staff performance.
- Proactively identifies opportunities to improve patient flow and the overall client experience.
- Ensures accurate and timely payroll processing for all hospital staff.
- Oversees accounts receivable, weekly revenue tracking, and daily deposits.
- Collaborates with Finance on payroll changes, CE funding requests, and financial reporting.
- Manages inventory and oversees semi-annual inventory processes.
- Conducts invoice audits and monitors employee balances.
- Approves non-standard payment plans or promissory notes.
- Works with senior leaders to control facility, administrative, and operational costs.
- Ensures accurate calculation and processing of DVM production payments.
- And other duties as assigned.
Required:
- Minimum 5 years of operations, office, or practice management experience.
- Minimum 1 year of people leadership or supervisory experience.
