The University of New Mexico Health Sciences Center (UNM HSC) is the state’s largest academic medical center, encompassing the School of Medicine, College of Pharmacy, College of Nursing, College of Population Health, UNM Comprehensive Cancer Center, and the UNM Health System. The UNM Health System—including UNM Hospital and Sandoval Regional Medical Center—delivers high‑quality care to more than 200,000 New Mexicans annually.
The Office of the HSC Executive Vice President/Chief Executive Officer (EVP/CEO) is seeking a Deputy Chief of Staff to join a dynamic, fast‑paced executive team. Reporting to the UNM HSC Chief of Staff, this role ensures operational efficiency and effectiveness within the EVP/CEO Office, fostering a culture of service, professionalism, and continuous improvement. The Deputy Chief of Staff serves as a trusted advisor, representing executive leadership on delegated projects and initiatives aligned with the University priorities.
Responsibilities may include managing office staff and coordinating government relations activities, requiring a strong understanding of federal and state policies impacting academic medical centers.

Required
- Project management skills.
- Strong interpersonal, organizational, and critical thinking skills; adaptability to meet changing demands.
- Strong skills in Smartsheets or other program management software.
- Ability to identify, analyze and address a wide variety of issues and problems in a high‑intensity environment.
- Knowledge of the goals, objectives, structure and operations of a major public university.
- Ability to gather data, compile information, and prepare reports.

- Employees who provide services or work in patient care or clinical areas are required to be in compliance with the University’s influenza vaccination requirement.
Bachelor’s degree; at least six years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year‑for‑year basis.
