The Bernalillo County Metropolitan Court is recruiting for a part-time, term Judicial Specialist 2 # for the Background Investigations Division in Albuquerque, NM. Position is located at the Courthouse or the Metropolitan Detention Center. A shift differential of $3.00 per hour is paid for hours worked between 6 p.m. and 7 a.m. The employee in this position is required to work rotating shifts, evenings, nights, weekends, holidays and when the Court is closed because of inclement weather.

The entire Metropolitan Detention Center property is a smoke free environment. Dress codes apply both at the Court and at the Metropolitan Detention Center. Target Pay Range/Rate: $22.750 per hour or $23,660.00 annually. Opening Date: 02-02-2026 | Close Date: 02-13-2026.

This is a part-time, term position in the Background Investigations Division. The job is funded through June 30, 2026.

Responsibilities
  • Manage court cases in a court of limited original jurisdiction. Open cases and perform in-depth records checks utilizing computerized court records and NCIC information; receive fines, fees and bond payments; balance and reconcile daily cash receipts; generate legal documents such as court date notices.
  • Respond to inquiries from legal and law enforcement community and from the public. Enter case information into an automated case management system. Generate court documents.
  • Collect and initiate bookings from detention center; issue conditions of release instructions. Research defendant wants, warrants and prior conviction history. Maintain logs and records; prepare statistical case management and financial reports.
  • Have the ability to get along with others and to work under stress. May perform other duties as assigned to meet the operational needs of the Court.
  • Open, docket, and close cases using the case management system; assess and receipt filing fees; determine event codes, enter data, scan documents, link related scanned images; enter closing events, disposition type, and judgement details.
  • Process, receipts, records, and reconcile monies; follow cash handling procedures. Process, maintain, and distribute documents, files, and case materials.
  • Review incoming filings for format, signatures, event code, and filing fees using electronic filing. Process and expedite orders of protection. Accurately disburse bond payments and prepare bond reports.
  • Reconcile billing and invoices from contracted vendors for Specialty Court Programs. Prepare, proofread, edit and mail notices and final orders.
  • Execute on case hearings (e.g., orders to show cause, bench warrants, recusals, excusals, pleadings, and rule extensions). Maintain cash till and ensure court fees are accurately assessed, paid, receipted, and recorded in the case management system.
  • Provide public case information to parties, attorneys, law enforcement agencies, and other outside agencies. Organize jury-related tasks, including jury summons and related materials.
  • Prepare alpha and random jury lists, voir dire sheets, and seating charts for jury trials. Organize case files for microfilming, archiving, and destruction. Prepare exhibits and hard copy case files.
  • Research automated, hard copy, and microfiche files for case status data. Certify and prepare court records, tapes, logs, and exhibits for appeals. Ensure office, courtrooms, and equipment are operational; maintain judicial calendars and schedules.
  • Serve as a court monitor. Under general supervision perform clerical and technical duties involved in case processing, file maintenance, jury management, and the conduct of the clerical business of the court.
  • Manage jury trial calendar requests for judges to schedule upcoming jury trials. Advise internal staff on jury procedures and updates when jurors are reporting.
  • May serve as a courtroom clerk, produce Instant J&Ss, obtain signatures from parties/counsel of record, assigned judge, file, and distribute. Provide support to other magistrate or district courts within the judicial district.
  • Daily routine includes working with prospective jurors, instructing them on online information completion, and providing appropriate forms when necessary. Answer phone calls, address correspondence, and maintain office supplies.
  • Coordinate program participation with Specialty Programs within the Court. Accept, maintain, and file court exhibits, including hazardous and dangerous items. Gather, deliver, and file recordings and logs to ensure accurate record keeping.
  • Troubleshoot recording equipment, run updates, and maintain technical logs. Responsible for retention of case material and marks for identification logs, files, and safeguards of exhibits as public, sequestered, or sealed.
  • Act as a liaison between court personnel, litigants, or attorneys to advance court proceedings. Other duties as assigned.
