Domestic Relations Hearing Officer (U) # – Full‑Time, At‑Will – Albuquerque, NM
Second Judicial District Court is recruiting for a full‑time, At‑Will Domestic Relations Hearing Officer (U) position # for the Family Court Division in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
Summary of PositionUnder the supervision of the Presiding Family Court Judge, the applicant will be assigned a domestic relations and domestic violence matters caseload. Consistent with Rule 1‑053.2, duties may include: reviewing petitions for indigency; conducting hearings on all petitions and motions, both before and after entry of the decree; carrying out the statutory duties of a child support hearing officer in a child support enforcement case;
performing the statutory duties of a domestic violence special commissioner and applying the procedures set out in Rule 1‑053.1 NMRA; assisting the court in carrying out the purposes of the Domestic Relations Mediation Act; and preparing recommendations for review and final approval by the court.
- Review petitions for indigency.
- Conduct hearings on all petitions and motions, before and after entry of the decree.
- Carry out statutory duties of a child support hearing officer in child support enforcement cases.
- Perform statutory duties of a domestic violence special commissioner and apply procedures set out in Rule 1‑053.1 NMRA.
- Assist the court in the Domestic Relations Mediation Act.
- Prepare recommendations for review and final approval by the court.
- J.D. from an accredited law school.
- New Mexico licensed attorney in good standing.
- Minimum of five (5) years’ experience in law practice with at least 20% in family law or domestic relations matters.
- Ability to establish effective working relationships with judges, legal community, and staff.
- Excellent communication of complex rules in writing and orally.
- Extensive knowledge of New Mexico and federal case law, constitution, statutes; court rules, policies and procedures.
- Strong research and analytical skills, use of manual and computer legal research tools.
- Demonstrated dependability, attention to detail, confidentiality, and organizational skills.
- Ability to pass a background check.
