Overview
The Massage Therapist is responsible for providing massage therapy treatments on clients through soft tissue manipulation while maintaining a safe and relaxing experience. The Therapist should be good at perceiving client needs and wishes through spoken language, body language, and other cues while modifying their treatments accordingly.

Responsibilities- Be familiar with the mission statement and core values of the YMCA. Model the core values while working and communicating with other staff.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide 30, 60, or 90 min massage sessions to clients by appointment
- Develop and propose client treatment plans that determine massage offerings and services
- Evaluate clients’ needs and their soft tissue condition, joint quality and function, muscle strength, and range of motion
- Take client history and note any health conditions
- Listen to clients during appointments and adjust technique as desired
- Advise clients on stretching, strengthening or relaxation methods
- Maintain clean and tidy working environment including washing sheets, towels, and blankets
- Maintain your appointment availability schedule through the YMCA’s CORE MMS software
- Follows YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention and emergencies.
Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, stand, walk, use hands and fingers, handle or feel objects, tools or controls, machines, weights and activities related to fitness; reaches with hands and arms; climb or balance; kneel, crouch, crawl; smell and hear. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 45 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close and distant vision, peripheral and depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
Acute hearing skills are required.
- Completion of a minimum of 650 hours of massage therapy school and a certificate of completion from that school.
- Current New Mexico State Licensure for Massage Therapy.
- Adherence to all applicable local and state licensing laws related to the massage therapy services provide, including following any applicable law pertaining to maintaining current massage license.
- Experience working in a massage therapy center environment or spa preferred.
- Proficient knowledge of Swedish, sports, deep tissue, trigger point, and other massage modalities.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Well groomed, professional appearance.
- Dexterous and able to stand for extended periods.
- Comfortable performing massage on diverse clients.
